Who's going to Loma Linda University?
nik24 replied to scion's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Ah I know, it was extremely difficult for me to send that email to decline the offer at Redlands. I also waited to receive the hard copy of my acceptance letter from LLU before drafting the decline email. The deposit was $200! According to the acceptance letter, Fall semester starts on 9/22! So you have plenty of time to plan for visits! -

Yes! The admissions department sent me a large envelop with instructions for the deposit (a yellow post card attached to a conduct agreement form). They did not provide a return envelop so I just used the address on the yellow card and made payment to Loma Linda University. I emailed Redlands last night and informed them that I will be declining their admission offer. I already paid the $350 deposit and I have a feeling I won't be getting that back If we are local, we should all meet for coffee in a few weeks! -

I am thinking about it! Deciding between LLU and Redlands right now! -
I was wait listed at LLU and offered admission to Redlands (which I accepted before the 15th and made a deposit). I received a call & email from LLU two days ago offering admission. I am now in the process of deciding too!! Any thoughts?!?!? They are both fantastic programs. The faculty bio on Redlands' web site is very impressive. I heard that Dr. Groher is very well known in the world of swallowing disorders (which is something that I'm interested in). LLU doesn't have as detailed of a faculty bio page but their medical center is so well known and that may be hard to find in other local programs. I am so torn!!!! I am trying my best to make a decision ASAP!!

I just received a voicemail and an email from LLU and I was offered a spot! I was previously on their "alternate list" and I have already accepted an offer at Redlands. LLU was my top in-state choice. I think I'm going to forget about my deposit at Redlands and accept this offer! Don't lose hope! I think they're working on the alternate list now. -

Hey! I am in the same situation. I have to make a deposit to confirm my acceptance of the admission offer elsewhere by the 15th and I am currently wait listed at LLU. I know that in this situation, I am willing to lose my deposit if anything given that LLU is one of my top choices. I think most programs won't let you know about the wait list status until after the 15th. That way they have a clear headcount of open spots to fill. That's when they'll start looking through the wait list for another round of selections. I have also heard that the selection process MAY also depend on who rejects their offer. For example, if someone with a solid research background rejected the offer then they'd hope to replace that spot with another person with solid research background. You can always try to call but I doubt they'll be able to let you know much before the 15th.. unless you're #1 or #2 on the wait list. I do wish that they'd give out some type of general wait list ranking like Portland did (high, middle, low). Best of luck to all of us on the wait list! -

@daisynic and @twinguy7 CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the hard work, stress, and anxiety over the last few months are now finally paid off!!!!!!!! I think we need a new forum when school starts to keep up the support level and create a healthy environment to discuss challenges and share therapy/material ideas!! I am so looking forward to this new journey!!! Congrats to everyone!!!!

Thank you everyone!! @e_lena, Yes, I grew up in So Cal and Redlands is about an hour away from me which means I would still have to move. I have visited Redlands a few times and it is a nice little city. I have heard that the cost of living around Redlands is cheaper than the more concentrated areas of LA, which is definitely comforting to know!! Are you going to accept your offer at Redlands??

I wanted to share with you that I also dealt with the same dilemma. In my undergrad COMD courses, I excelled in all the AuD courses - which most undergrad COMDers dreaded as they were more technical and challenging. I loved the physics aspect of sound acoustics and the ever-growing advancements of the hearing aid field. I actually started my application process applying to AuD programs. I took two undergrad courses which qualified me for a California state certification as a school audiometrist. I soon started working at a local agency as both an audiometrist and a SLP-Assistant (both are state licensed). After having gained over 100+ hours of doing hearing screenings at local preschools & elementary schools as well as over 50+ hours of shadowing an audiologist (mainly pediatric), I found myself becoming more and more unmotivated for AuD. I loved the academic aspect of audiology but found that the actual clinical aspect of it is not for me. IMHO, for both SLP and AuD, you MUST MUST MUST gain as much observation and shadowing hours as you can to ensure that you know exactly what you're getting yourself into. I enjoyed AuD courses more than SLP-based courses but I enjoy carrying out speech therapy so much more than conducting hearing evals. Best of luck in your decision!

Ah thank you so much for the info! I did find that email in my junk mail box. I called the school and received instruction on how to access my account. It currently reads "decision pending." That is definitely better than a rejection but I still don't know how to feel as it seems that quite a few people have already gotten invitations for interview. I'm hoping they're giving out interviews in waves! I tried calling the department last week but they may be on spring break since every number I tried went to voicemail. -
