I'm on one waitlist right now. Last year, during my first (and unsuccessful) application cycle, I was waitlisted at my top choice. Ultimately I wasn't admitted. I reapplied this year -- it's still my very top choice. I'm waiting to hear back and can't describe how anxious I'm feeling.
Looking at previous years, it seems that Penn acceptances have sometimes gone out in waves. Maybe the person the caller spoke to meant that there were still more decisions to be made? I have no idea though, just speculating here.
Either way, congrats pinwheel!
Hey - I'm one of the UMass people on the board. My POI emailed yesterday in the afternoon, and then the DGS emailed last night (around 8:30 CST). She said an official offer from the Graduate Dean was forthcoming. I only saw two admits on the board, though, so perhaps there are more coming!
Hey all - I haven't heard anything about the visiting day (and didn't know it was March 5th until seeing your post, squelchevesir). Did you guys receive additional info after the initial email?
Thanks for the program info, RandomDood!
Hey Dragon - do you mind sharing if it was a POI or the DGS who called you? Also, congratulations!
[Edit: Hope it didn't sound like I didn't believe you - I was just curious. If you're not comfortable sharing that's totally okay.]
Thanks for all the info, SocGirl! It's super helpful.
And gingin, you're probably right - I hadn't even considered that the Philly/East Coast weather might be a factor in the decision timeline. But now that you mention it, I have heard that Penn has completely shut down a couple of times in the last few weeks.
Has anyone heard anything at all from Columbia or Penn? All I remember seeing is a lone Columbia phone acceptance -- and it seems that decisions for both had gone out by this time last year.
