  1. I have a friend at Cal who told me Berkeley's prospective students visit was this last weekend. Not sure what this means re: waitlists, etc.
  2. Thanks for responding, and you make a good point. In fact, my POI in the program made it a point to tell me that they fund all students the same as to not create tensions, etc. Oh well. It's certainly worth the daunting moving expenses!
  3. is waiting on Harvard (words I never thought I'd write...)

  4. Has anyone here ever been offered/asked for/demanded funding for relocation costs? I'd like to ask, but they've already been quite generous...
  5. Yes, my POI at Yale told me there were 280 in art history alone this year. But, wait! I hadn't heard Harvard sent out acceptances...is this true? I saw one person was short-listed on Feb. 17th or so, but isn't that all anyone has heard?
  6. Congratulations to the freshly anointed Princetonians!!
  7. Hi jmb04, If you're still interested, Yale apparently received approx. 280 applications and they're admitting between 11-14. Official acceptances mailed at the end of last week. This is all I know.
  8. Hey guys. The "holy shitter" was me. I feel like it can't be real, which is why I haven't posted details. It must be a joke... My hopes are still high for every art historian here! I know how terrible the waiting- the unknowing is- so here are some details: Email this morning from DGS to set up a time to talk on the phone, official acceptance letter has not yet arrived. Unlike one of the other Yale admits, I haven't heard from the professor I applied to work with. And of course no word on funding. I have an MA. Mainly I'm a modernist, but concentrate on Russian/Soviet art, theology, and critical theory. This is my first AH notification- was rejected by a cultural studies program two weeks ago. Good luck to all!
  9. Oh yeah, and congratulations or whatever. (jk, of course)
  10. Lol! "Shattered dreams!" I like your style jmb.
  11. Sigh. 3 Northwestern admits today and my inbox remains empty. Not looking good...
  12. Yes, please, jmb04! I can be in LA in 6hrs. I got my MA last year, so if things continue the way they've been going I'll have to hold down a "real" job until I can apply again.
  13. So, who is the Northwestern admit?! Is it the person who was "shortlisted" a couple weeks ago (thomasjnh)? Whoever it is: Congratulations!! Is it too early to start drinking today?
  14. Thanks artschoolhopeful, had a bit too much wine last night and let some self-pity sneak in. My friends and family would appreciate this site immensely if they knew how much it deflected what would otherwise burden them! Good luck to you!
  15. Feeling pretty down since the word on the street (meaning the results page) is that what might have been my top choice is having a prospective students' weekend in less than two weeks. I have not been invited. Oh, to be a admit, prospect, waitlister, alternate, one-night-stand, neglected stepchild, secret grad student on the side who is always threatening to tell the legitimate students about the affair, new custodian in the AH dept...anything!
  16. Oh, and "P.S."- great little movie with Laura Linney. Topher Grace plays an MFA applicant who has an affair with a woman in Columbia's admissions office. Gabriel Byrne plays a sex addicted professor. Good stuff.
  17. "Wonder Boys" is so good! "Smart People"
  18. UChicago, UChicago, UChicago, UChicago, UChicago
  19. I don't know. Some "rebuilding" years are definitely ahead- it will be interesting to see where the dept goes from here in terms of modernism, no? Could be exciting, could be really bad...
  20. Yes, Clark is retiring. He and Anne Wagner are moving to London- she got a position at the Tate. I've heard they are only accepting three this year and it seems doubtful (imo) that any of them will be modernists considering the faculty changes in the department.
  21. Yes, very diplomatic. Next step, think of a new name for the field! I also applied at NW. There are two people there who I would love to work with. And I wouldn't worry too much about your potential advisor being on leave, I'm sure she'll be consulted. Ugh, the waiting is far worse than I anticipated. I'm supposed to be working on a symposium paper (to be given at the end of Feb!) and I haven't been able to concentrate long enough to even start writing it... Well, hopefully things will start picking up soon- then we'll really become the bane of the historians!
  22. No problem, jmb04, consider me officially relegated to forum of reticence. Too bad it wasn't you who heard from Northwestern- based on your concentration I can imagine why you applied there! Good luck!
  23. Wow, that must have been really difficult to wade through all three Art History results on the first page alone! (Only five AH results- total- in January) Everyone is waiting, everyone is neurotic. How do you think I feel having to type in a whole extra word to narrow the results?! It is unfair that art historians have co-opted your title in their discipline, I mean, it's not like it's based on historical inquiry or anything...oh wait...
