  1. aryt13, I understand your rage, if everything you are stating here is true you have worked very hard to get where you want to get. It is an enormous disappointment when we are denied what we think we deserve. The problem here is that nobody owes you anything. You have an impressive resume, but to tell you the truth so do I and may other people out there. I have worked very hard to get into MIT or Harvard but entry is not guaranteed, I am competing against some of the brightest people in the world who hold a resume as impressive as mine or more. Besides, the adcom not only looks for impressive resumes but a fit in terms of research interests and personality. Yes, I believe personality is a huge factor, nobody wants to work with a person who is far from humble and might get enraged over certain problems. You worked hard and tried to give your best, but I assure you that so did I during my undergraduate and professional degrees. And many other people out there. Resilience and the ability to accept failure and move on is one of the characteristics they are looking for. I am very sorry to hear your story, but you can try next year as well, and I believe this might be one of the biggest lessons life might teach you.

  2. My work is based on all-nighters. I can't do anything on the morning, like Gnome. I feel absurdly slow and with the sun shining outside, I can't concentrate. Sometimes I go to work after a whole night of studying or drawing. During my time in University there have been weeks when I have been able to sleep like 1 or 2 hours per day. It's only horrible when you think about it afterwards... because during the proccess you are so busy that you don't really feel your body. lol. Anyway, if I am training hard in the gym I can't do this, I need 9 hours of sleep (otherwise I will be suffering from horrible body aches until I sleep properly) and the need of sleeping usually comes early. So if I want to regulate my sleep times I go to the gym.

  3. A series of gun shots? I hope everybody around you is OK! Tell us about it!

I am currently using a MSI laptop. The relationship between price and technical charasteristics is very good, so check them out. Previously I had been using a iMac, a HP laptop and before this, an Acer laptop. My HP laptop is 10 years old and it is still working fine, so based on my experience, I recommend the HP brand without any doubt. Anyway, if you have the money, a Mac Book Pro is a good option. It is not going to give you any problem, whether technical or related to usability or configuration. They are as smooth as silk.

  4. I would say, focus on your portfolio and put passion and clear ideas in your SOP. If necessary, get a job for some time, and try to get in in places with reputation. Fight to get where you want to get! Don't settle for less and don't be afraid of effort and hard work, it pays off. Good luck everyone!!

  5. I thought that when applying to a PhD if you are not quite ready but the Department wants you, you would be admitted into a Masters degree... no need to apply separately. Or maybe this changes from Uni to Uni... I would ask her if it would be possible to accept you into a Masters with your PhD application. And I wouldn't get into any program that is not a great fit... you have to be filled with what you are doing, otherwise it is a waste of money and time. But that is just my opinion.
