Claiming a Georgetown and Syracuse rejection. Within 5 minutes of one another. Boo.
Oh sorry to hear that. Well you've got some great acceptances!

The graduate program coordinator at Harvard confirms "no notifications have been made as of yet. We hope to have admissions decisions available sometime next week -- most likely toward the end of the week."
Thank you for checking this!
-
There are multiple Harvard entries at the results board from the past few days. If they're trolls or not, I have no idea.

Guessing Yale admits are all out with almost no hope remaining there.
I am happy with the Northwestern admit, though a bit concerned about living in Evanston. Really wanted Columbia or Yale though..gotta live with it!

The DGS is pretty busy. i would just wait it out (painful, i know). If you have been dealing with a specific professor or know a student in the department, go ahead and email them. lt does not seem right for me to tell strangers. Sorry!
Thanks a lot! Of course, no need to say sorry!
-
Didn't Chicago say that they would send out rejections by the 18th? It's kind of funny how terrible they have been throughout this whole process.
Yep they had said that. They're quite bad with the apps, you're right!
-
Sorry, Î'm being too impatient..
-
Some professors may not have contacted students yet... most are unlikely to until at least later in the day today. It's not over until the fat lady sings... some students only found out by official email from Yale last year. That Said, decisions have been made.
Thanks a lot! Last question--would it make sense to email the DGS?

The Yale admit list is out (shared with the department) and many will receive emails from grad students or profs in their field. Official admits and rejections are handled by the university and will come later.
Good luck to all.
'Will receive' means not everyone has received info yet?

Congrats Yale people and everyone! With no news from Yale, I'm getting less and less hopeful..

Hello everyone,
Could we revive this topic for incoming Northwestern students?
Do most NU PhDs live in Evanston? Would it make sense to live in downtown Chicago? Would also love to learn more about safety in Evanston and Chicago at large.
Thanks!

The department seems to do more constructivist and critical work than most other top US political science departments. That's what draws me to it. ;-)
Same here. There seems to be lots of room for improvement in those realms. How do you feel about the location, IRTheoryNerd? And rankings? These are my two concerns, to be honest.
-
Anyone know for sure they'll be attending visiting weekend?
I unfortunately won't be able to, because I am living abroad at the moment.
I heard from many that the department at Northwestern has a leftist/constructivist direction. Anyone can speak about that?
-
Yep, sending an email if they haven't notified by next Wednesday (one week after first acceptances) makes sense.
-
Wondering if there's any room for hope for Columbia or not..if they announced the acceptances yesterday, should I take it as a no?
-
Are Columbia admits only methods or IR/Comp as well?
-
Congrats to Columbia admits! Anxiously waiting........
-
Columbia and Yale, don't disappoint us another day!
Yes!! Someone had info that Columbia would announce "early this week" --anyone with info re: Yale? Last year, they announced results toward the end of February, checking from the results board.

Does this then equal only 4 years of guaranteed funding? That would be a red flag for me, since average time to completion is closer to 6 or 7 at most places, and 5 years of funding should be standard! Regarding TA/stipend: Depends on the school! State schools tend to have more TA commitments than private ones, for obvious reasons.
I would say TA-ing in years 1+2 might be annoying, since you're still taking classes (especially year 1 TA-ing might be difficult), though people have managed before!
I would say a good offer is one that guarantees funding for 5 years, doesn't unduly burden you to TA (different people have different opinions on this), and provides enough money for you to live on (expected)! Check out COL estimators etc. for this aspect! Also look at what kind of health insurance and fees are included in the package, as this might make an important difference in your take-home stipend/money!
Thanks a lot! Very helpful. Fingers crossed that we will hear (great) news today!
-
As far as I know, it is always possible to apply to clusters once you're at the university.
-
Thanks a lot! These are very useful.
Then comes another question: what is a good offer? I guess two years of TAship is pretty much standard, but how about if a school gives you one year of funding + 3 years of TAship?
-
Multiple friends doing their PhDs in engineering and physical sciences told me that they negotiated their stipend before accepting an offer. I had not heard of such a practice in political science --anyone have ideas about that?
-
Yep, NYU rejections are finally here.

Congrats to Harvard and UPenn admits! Guessing Harvard's done announcing then?
