NOT EVEN ONE ACCEPTANCE YET? LETS VENT HERE!!
daisynic replied to Persis's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I hope April doesn't drag on too much! I'm getting nervous. I know I didn't get accepted to one of the schools I'm waiting for, because they e-mailed their acceptances. And another one of my schools sent e-mails out today (acceptances and rejections) but I'm still waiting. This is such a difficult time! -
Congratulations!!

You deserve a fair chance! Even if you get into Brooklyn, you will at least be given what you are entitled to from Lehman, and then you'll get a chance to make a decision. Good luck!

Very interesting!

Do you know where you will be accepting your offer yet? It's nice to narrow it down (probably makes it less stressful), congratulations on the acceptances!

I got another wait-list today. After tears yesterday, I was excited to be wait-listed! I guess it's true that if you're having a horrible day, the next one can only get better - or at least my perspective has improved! -

My "next step" plan was to try to work as an SLPA as well, but I would have to move to a state that hires them. The problem is that it's difficult to get the SLPA job if you don't already live in the state! I really don't know what I will do if I don't get in anywhere -
My parents have been encouraging me to contact schools to find out, so that if it doesn't work for me (again), that I can find a way to improve. The issue is, the rejection letters all stay the same standardized thing - that there were many qualified applicants and that it was a difficult decision. I almost think that there really isn't any specific reason that schools say no - what one school finds exceptional may not stand out to another, because we are presenting ourselves as words on paper to people. And people have so many feelings and emotions and personalities - who knows!

That is an awful thing for a professor to say! I'm sorry to hear that. I completely understand what you mean about being emotionally worn out. I felt that way, too, after applying to 15 schools. But now that the time has passed, I wish that I didn't feel that way and spent extra time double-checking and re-editing my PS. There's nothing I can do now, of course, but I remember feeling that exact same way! -
I'm sorry to hear that! I'm confident you will get an acceptance soon though. Your stats and experience are incredible!

My spirit is extremely crushed today. I also had a dream/nightmare that I went to the house of the program head of one of the schools I applied to at night time when he was about to go to sleep and literally begged him to let me in to the program. And he said that decisions were already sent out but I could speak with him on the phone. I'm still trying to be optimistic, but gosh it is so difficult. -

I know! All my friends think that it won't be a problem, and other people who don't really understand what SLP is think everyone just gets in. Which makes getting rejected even more frustrating -

I had a mental breakdown yesterday And then I received another rejection today. I know I don't have a strong GPA, but I graduated college 2 years ago and I am so much more focused (and mature) than I was at that time. I took a couple speech graduate courses last semester and got a 4.0 in those classes, but it seems like my application still isn't strong enough. I am so incredibly nervous! I know I still have more schools to hear from, but when there has only been rejections, it's easy to let my mind wander to the negative Hugs to everyone on this board! -

I sincerely hope you are right! I applied to 4 last year and had no luck (except for one waitlist), so I figured doing that times 4 this year might give me better odds. 10 is a great number though! -

I got two rejections today Fortunately they weren't my top choices, but it's making me that much more nervous for the ones I'm really praying for! -
It has been 27 hours since I called when they said a decision would be made within 24 hours
-
I have gotten an e-mail and letter in the mail that my Montclair application has been sent for departmental review. Nothing besides that though! Good luck!

Oh wow! That makes me so nervous. Thank you! Crossing my fingers

Has anyone worked, or know someone who has worked, as an SLPA in Texas? Do you need to know someone personally who is looking for an Assistant, or can you simply apply for a job and then apply for the license? I noticed that with obtaining the SLPA license, you need to fill out paperwork so the state has on record who your supervising SLP is, but without a supervising SLP, you can't get the license (or that's what it looks like. I e-mailed the department and haven't heard back yet). If anyone has an information, that would be great!

Ah! That is so odd. I double checked with the woman I spoke with and asked if I should call again if it's not updated within 24 hours, and she said it should be up by then. I guess only time will tell!

Oh gosh, a whole week where I can't obsessively check the portal? Haha, but thank you so much! I will give Dr. Stillman a call next week.
