  1. I feel ya. Last year, I was notified on a Friday at 6:10pm (EST) so this year I keep hoping to get the email even after 5pm...it's dreadful. EDIT: I also just looked on the spreadsheet and saw that compared to last year, Mexico's notification is now 2 weeks late - I am so sorry! The wait must be excruciating. Moldova usually doesn't notify until the middle of April, so my wait isn't unusual...just painful.
  2. My thoughts exactly! Now that it is April, I am hoping that today is our day!!
  3. I applied for research in Moldova, so we are in the same boat with waiting. I had my hopes up that I would be notified early since there were so many early notifications, but I think I need to lower my expectations to save my sanity. Easier said than done though!
  4. Will you be going to the admitted student open house? Sadly, I will be out of town. But, I went to the open house in the fall for applicants - I wonder if the information will be much different?
  5. Your job sounds like a fantastic opportunity!! Now that you have gotten the job, are you committed to taking the Fulbright if you are a finalist? I have accepted a grad school offer, but I will defer if I get the Fulbright - even though there is a chance that I could lose my funding package for my program. At the moment it also looks like my internship might have the potential to turn into permanent work. So, like you, I am itching to hear back! I know it could be any day now, but at this point I am betting that I will find out in the middle of April like I did last year.
  6. My heart is breaking for you! I was rooting for you too. Wishing you all the best and that this will result in other amazing opportunities for you!!
  7. You are right, that makes much more sense!
  8. Also, it is awkward that universities issue these statements long before all the applicants have been notified. Unless, the Duke students had already received all of their notifications, which seems unlikely.
  9. Yes, those are definitely students that applied. The terminology gets confusing when it's used incorrectly, because only U.S. faculty members/working professionals qualify to apply as Fulbright Scholars.
  10. I'm sorry to hear that, I was rooting for you! But I am glad that you are thinking positively!
  11. The final notification should come from IIE, just like the semi-finalist notification. It seems that, according to this page, once the country's Fulbright Commission or U.S. Embassy decides, their decision must still be approved by FFSB. So I'm curious what the turn-around time is for FFSB to approve of the selection. Maybe your friend's notification is unique to Turkey or whoever emailed her from Turkey's Fulbright commission skirted the protocol and notified her first? My email last year was technically emailed from the IIE program manager for my region, but the email was IIE generated - so maybe your friend just thought the email was from the Fulbright Commission? Hard to say.
  12. We only knew about each other because of this forum. Magically, all of the semi-finalists for Moldova were on this forum last year. Otherwise, I don't believe there is any way to figure out the number of alternates selected. We were surprised that there were 2 of us as alternates, because, initially, there was only 1 research grant recipient. So I am not even sure what the formula is for deciding on the number of alternates. I'm sorry that I can't be of more help, I really wish this process was more transparent.
  13. Yes! I would feel much more calm if notifications were happening in the same time-frame as last year, but now I am having so much anxiety because the notifications could really happen at any time! I am sure it is more difficult for you because Ireland was notified this time last year. I hope you hear back today!!
  14. Congratulations!! Did you end up receiving the deaf studies grant or did you stick with the traditional study/research grant?
  15. I am so sorry that the two of you were chosen as alternates! I understand your range of emotions, as I was selected as an alternate last year. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to get additional information about my status after notification. There were two of us alternates last year for Moldova and the other alternate was bumped up, but not until the middle of June. In some ways, being an alternate really is worse than being a NS because the waiting doesn't end - I spent the entire summer on pins and needles hoping that I would be promoted also. But now, looking back, I am very happy that I was chosen as an alternate instead of NS and being chosen as an alternate informed my decision to apply again. Even though the 2015-2016 grant year would have been the PERFECT time for me to live abroad for a year, I am hoping that I am selected this year and I will have to make things work. Best of luck to both of you! And remember that being chosen as an alternate is still an achievement and future employers, professors, etc. will be impressed to see that you were an alternate on your resume or cv.
  16. Congratulations!!! What will you be researching?
  17. Yes, that notification email really slaps you in the face. But at least it's like ripping off a band-aid...?
  18. Amen! This has to be one of the most difficult academic processes to go through. But we'll come out stronger on the other side because of it. And you aren't the only one who can't stop obsessing, that's why this forum exists, after all!
  19. My application was due on January 1st, I stupidly wrote in my SOP that I was starting an internship in the field in January 2015 and wrote the internship dates as 2015 on my resume as well. That is the worst mistake of forgetting to write the new year that I have ever made. I was stressed about it and then I was accepted with funding. So hooray! And I am sure that these review committees laugh at our mistakes right along with us.
  20. I don't think that your mistake was detrimental. People have found silly mistakes on their applications before. I doubt that will greatly impact whether you are accepted or rejected, especially because you didn't have to affiliate with a university in advance. There is a thread on here for people who have made mistakes on their grad school apps, I'll find it for you because it is hilarious and it will make you feel better. EDIT: I made a silly mistake on my grad school app this year and I was very stressed over it. And then I was accepted and I realized that these things happen all the time and review committees are usually kind enough to overlook them. It's all just human error.
  21. No, this doesn't happen for every country. At least not before you are chosen as a recipient (also remember that we included our passport numbers in our applications). Busybee's country most likely needs the passport for a specific reason in this case. I don't think anyone should fret because they haven't received a similar email.
  22. That's great! Did your friend receive the grant? Looking at the spreadsheet it seems really early for both Iceland and Portugal to notify, so that's really exciting.
