  1. @kfm The "any minute" mindset is so rough! I applied last year and, ultimately, was chosen as an alternate. But I was a nervous wreck the entire waiting period, even though I had a ballpark idea of the time frame in which I would be notified - I refreshed my email constantly! I think that having gone through the process once already, I feel much more peaceful about it this time around. Part of the problem last year may have also been that I put all of my proverbial eggs into the Fulbright basket, like an insane person. This year I have been accepted into my first choice grad program for the fall, so I have a backup plan that I am really excited about. Right now, I am just trying to pass the time by throwing myself into my internship. I also made a book list challenge for myself, so I am staying busy even when I have down time. This wait definitely teaches patience! One of the many benefits of the Fulbright application process. Last year, the first notifications came out on March 4th! I am really looking forward to the good news rolling in!
  2. Phew! Waiting till April 29th is torturous! But I am right there with the two of you, last year we found out on April 16th. But I am SO happy that it is March, I think that the time will pass more quickly than we think - fingers crossed, anyway!
  3. Yay!! Congratulations! I am very happy for you and so glad that the wait is over!
  4. Hooray!! I am glad to hear that things are progressing - Crossing my fingers for you too!
  5. Congratulations! I also just found out on Thursday that I was accepted to my first choice grad program with funding! I am so excited and it has definitely given me something to focus on besides this wait! I spoke to the program director during the open house in the fall and was told that deferring would be possible (and quite common), the only downside is that funding cannot be guaranteed upon return to the program. As a result, I have already accepted admission and if I am fortunate enough to receive the Fulbright grant I will submit a request to defer admission. I know that it works differently for every university/department, though. Congrats again and best of luck to you!!
  6. I got the email yesterday at 5:30pm, I was accepted to the HP program with funding - I am thrilled! Do not despair! I have confidence that you will be accepted! I am positive that your wait is just longer bc you are waiting for the architecture department. I am pretty sure they mentioned a longer wait for dual masters applicants during the open house and also, according to the spreadsheet, community planning applicants were notified on Feb 9th, but there is a community planning/HP applicant who was just notified yesterday. I am assuming it is because the applicant had to wait for the HP department to make their admission decisions. Stay strong!
  7. Oh, yes! I am sure that you will be on a different timeline for notifications. Well, the MAPP school recently posted a new dual degree MA on their website in Applied Anthropology and HP. So, I emailed the contact listed on the article to express my interest in the program and was told that HP had made their decisions and we would receive letters "shortly." I assumed that "shortly" meant "in a few hours," so I was dying all day yesterday. But that email was sent at 11AM yesterday and I still haven't heard anything. So I am hoping for news by the end of business on Friday. Fingers crossed!
  8. So the status of my application has changed to "Under Graduate School Review," so I'm assuming that means that the department has made their decisions?! The wait may not be too much longer!
  9. Oh geez, no reason to be nervous then! Don't be silly, they won't expect you to be an expert before you enter the program.
  10. It was about Baltimore's post-war suburbanization and a specific Baltimore family that moved to the suburbs once their rowhome was slated to be demolished in the construction of MLK Boulevard. My thesis was on crime and the black market in WWII Britain, so it was completely unrelated to HP. Are you nervous because your writing sample isn't related to HP?
  11. I took a chance and instead of submitting my undergraduate thesis, I submitted a paper on a topic that was more closely related to Historic Preservation. So I am a little worried about my writing sample also, as my thesis was really solid. I guess it's out of our hands now and we will know the results soon enough!
  12. Oh, that's because the person who posted their result left the 'd' off of University of Maryland, haha. That's good news that your portfolio is being viewed! I've noticed that there are some HP programs with a much faster turn around from the time of application to the notification date, but I know it's a process.
  13. Ah, the Mt. Vernon field school? Fantastic! Yes, I also thought that I remembered being told at the open house that mid-late March would be the timeline for notification. Then I saw on here that the planning department notified and I got my hopes up. I still imagine that it will be late Feb/early March because of the dates posted online, like you said. I would be fine waiting until the end of February, but I think I'll be a mess if it takes until the end of March to hear back.
  14. Out of curiosity, I just checked out the deafness grant on the Italy Fulbright page and although it does specifically mention that the grant is open to "graduate students" it also lists the following: Accepted Degree Levels: Bachelor's Master's Doctoral So perhaps they are also open to applicants with undergraduate degrees. Wishing you the best of luck, it all sounds very promising!
  15. Same here! I was initially also interested in UT Austin (I have family in TX) and GW. But I went to the UMD open house and was sold, the program checks every box for me. Plus, I really did not want to relocate for a Master's program. In other news, I saw on the results page that the Community Planning department notified applicants yesterday - I wonder if that means anything for us?
  16. Yay! That's great! I checked the results page on here and it looks like the MHP program notified on Feb 27th last year. I was hoping it would be a little earlier, but waiting 3 weeks more won't be too terrible. Best of luck to you!
  17. Hi all! I was just curious if there were any other Historic Preservation MA applicants on the forum. I applied to University of Maryland's MA in Hist Pres and I am now getting anxious to hear back!
  18. I had a dream last night that when our respective countries made their final decisions, IIE airdropped letters to us from helicopters. When I received mine, I was chosen as an alternate again. Ugh, so tragic! And all this time, I thought that I was so much more calm this application season.
  19. The stats are total applicants/grants given. It's logical if you look at the stats for France, for example. There is no way there were 149 semi-finalists for 19 grants last year. EDIT: Also, you'll know the number of grants available by looking at the country's grant page on the website, although the number of grants available may change due to lack of funding, additional funding, or unsafe conditions.
  20. Congratulations! I was in Krakow and Warsaw in the fall and I loved everything about Poland, especially the food! Best of luck to you.
  21. For the most part, all the grant applicants for one country should be notified on the same day. I believe that there have been some exceptions to this in the past, though.
  22. Sadly, I didn't think to save them! It looks like when it was updated, the old link was updated also.
  23. In case anyone is obsessed like me, I found this link super interesting last year and it has been updated for this application cycle. There are links to the National Screening Committee lists, so you can see who reviewed your application (although for ETAs it doesn't separate the reviewers by region), and to pages that explain the application review process. http://us.fulbrightonline.org/country-review-resources
  24. It seems that they have just changed the terminology this year. Last year, at this stage, if you were recommended you were considered a "finalist." But now, you are a finalist if you are approved by the country's Fulbright committee/U.S. Embassy in country and receive "principal" status in the final award notification - effectively you will be a finalist if you are approved for the grant whether you have an interview or not. I hope that makes sense.
