  1. Awesome, just requested to be a part of it! I will not be graduating in 2016 though (coming in without a background) :/ .
  2. Both are good choices! I was also between these two and ended up choosing Kean. I did this because I had visited Kean and loved it. The faculty seemed knowledgeable, the clinic is brand new and beautiful, and the current graduate students seemed both professional and personable. I did not ever visit WPU, so it was hard for me to choose, but I heard that their clinic was not as "new". I doubt this matters too much, considering their graduate employment rate within a year of graduating has been 100% the past few years, but the speech pathologist I shadow said how a more high tech facility is something that will enhance your therapy greatly.
  3. Does anyone know if there is an accepted student page yet?
  4. I could definitely understand how that would be disheartening! But, it really just sounds like that may have more to do with the professor not being as attentive as others as opposed to you not being a memorable student; that's what the evidence seems to point to! Joining your research lab will probably be one of the most influential and important things you could have done! Good for you! You are well on your way to having everything you need for a stellar, well-rounded application
  5. Hello! I come from Rutgers University, a large state college, so I understand what it's like to do well in a class, visit professors at office hours, yet still feel like your professors don't know you too well. But, you need to remember something: as long as you are doing this, you are actually getting to know your professor more than most of your other peers in your class! If you were asking a professor you did not interact with outside of class, merely just got A's in their classes, then I would tell you to think twice about asking. But, this does not seem to be the case for you. One of my letter writers fell into this category: I aced two of her classes, went to office hours, and interacted often in the smaller of the two classes she taught. Though she may not know me like my best friends, she still knows me better than she does other students, and this is what makes a LOR shine. I would like to make a suggestion. A great way to get great LORs is to join a research lab. During my undergraduate career, I have been a part of two research labs. A research lab gives you the opportunity to work closely with a few others peers, but more importantly, one-on-one with a faculty member. It is a great way to get close to a faculty member while building up your resume at the same time.
  6. Have you tried calling the departments and asking about the status of your application? If not, I highly recommend doing so!
  7. I typed in "Kean" in the results page and it actually says that someone received an acceptance today via postal mail!
  8. Good news everyone! I just called them up and asked them when they will be notifying everyone by because deadlines for other schools are approaching and people (I said me) were waiting on them to make a decision. [i asked more tactfully but I am typing this quickly because I want everyone waiting for them to know this LOL]. The kind lady on the other end said that they will most likely be sending out ALL decisions by the end of the week. I repeat ALL! She told me if we have not heard back by Tuesday, to feel free to contact the office and see what is going on.
  9. Hmm okay I see ... maybe try emailing Dr. Magaldi directly? I did that with a question and she responded within an hour of me sending it.
  10. My application says that it is still under review too :/ . I am going to call them today and ask them if they will at least send everyone some kind of response before April 15 ... They are my top choice ...
  11. Just clicked on the link ... and yes they were definitely recently reaccreditted! Also, which number are you calling? Everytime I call William Paterson I get an answer, so it's strange that you are having a lot of trouble.
  12. That is such great news! Congratulations!!!!!
  13. Ahh! My status hasn't changed yet! It says it's still under review
  14. This post REALLY had me scared, because I accepted an offer with a very early deposit date, but am expecting to hear back from my top choice schools within the next few weeks. But, I actually found this little piece of information on another post! "The Council of Graduate Schools really only covers offers of "financial aid" (TAships, fellowships, etc..not student loans). They DO NOT cover offers of admission. You do not need to ask for a release at all. You owe them nothing except for common professional courtesy (which I recommend you give.) You lost your seat deposit perhaps, but you don't need to "ask" them to do anything. This is a common misconception with the council of graduate schools and offers of admission. Good luck!"
  15. Received a waitlist email. I copy/pasted it below. "Dear M.A. Program Applicant, We are in the final stages of completing our admissions process and you have been placed on our waitlist. If you wish to remain on the waitlist please let me know in a response to this email within the next 72 hours. If we do not hear from you within 72 hours we will assume that you are no longer interested in the program. If you are selected from the waitlist I will notify you as quickly as possible. If you have questions or concerns about the process or the decision please feel free to contact Dr. Aquiles Iglesias, Chairman of our Admissions Committee by email. iglesias@temple.edu. With kind regards, Dawn" I will not be responding, and will therefore be taken off the waitlist in 72 hours. Hope that helps somebody!
  16. Thank you so much to everyone who replied! I am glad to hear all of this.
  17. Hi everyone! Just a quick question. Some programs that I applied to (including my top choice) offer an MA in Speech Pathology (Master of Arts), while some offer an MS in Speech Pathology (Master of Science). Does anybody have any kind of idea how the programs would be different? Would an MS program just be more research oriented? And, does having an MA versus an MS affect the likelihood of getting a job one day? Thank you!
  18. Thank you both for your quick and helpful responses! I will take advice from the both of you ... will call the school and ask for an extension, but may still just reserve the spot if I see I get too close to the deadline.
  19. Hi everyone! Ok, so I am still waiting to hear back from my top choice school, but the due date for it's application was March 1, so I don't feel like I will hear from them until April. BUT, one of the schools that I have been accepted to that I am really considering going to has a decision due date of March 24th (with a $300 non-refundable deposit). Does anyone know if it is possible to accept a seat and then decline it afterwards (I would be willing to take the $300 hit)?
  20. This is actually a bit shocking to me. I have actually heard of speech path graduate programs not counting Linguistics phonetics towards their phonetics requirement due to lack of clinical relevance. But, that's great if some schools are more lax with it! I guess your best bet (person who started the thread) would just be to have the course's syllabus handy and call the graduate department to ask if it would count!
  21. I agree here. As a linguistics major, I know very well how different phonology and phonetics actually are. Schools will not consider them to be interchangeable, and the material taught in phonology does not seem like it would pertain to speech.
