GWU is located in a very expensive part of DC.  But keep in mind that DC has an excellent subway system and a pretty good bus system, so it's possible to live in less expensive areas and still commute to campus.  The WMATA website has a trip finder application, where you can put in your starting address and your destination and it will show you how you would get there using public transport, how long it would take, and how much it would cost.

@Bunsen Honeydew: Hmmm. I'm not sure what to make of the fact that I haven't heard anything, then. Thanks for the info. I guess you're going to SAIS, then? Congrats!

@ceid90: I sent an email last Monday asking about it, and the wording of the email was (in my opinion) a little ambiguous:

"If you wish to appeal our fellowship decision, you may email us requesting reconsideration after April 15, when extra funds may become available."

I can't decide if it means "email us... after April 15" or if it just means that, whenever we email them, they won't reconsider until after the 15th. I emailed them last Wednesday asking to be reconsidered, but I haven't heard back yet, so the jury's still out on the interpretation.

I got accepted into GWU as well...
Looking at their employment data for alums, it seems to be a pretty well-performing masters program, w/ almost 90% of grads getting some form of employment, post-grad.
Also, the alumni network is vast, and their presence in DC is very prominent.
If you want to work in DC, you def won't have problems of ppl not recognizing/respecting you

But the size of the program also means you're not "unique" in the sense that there're many others with a same degree as you.
And esp in DC, there's gonna be a lot of Elliott grads you'll have to go up against.
SAIS grads have this same problem as well...
You also have to worry about ppl not recognizing how good GWU Elliott is outside of DC...
It certainly doesn't have the same brand recognition as Georgetown and SFS.

Admitted but waitlisted for funding. Problem is, even if some becomes available, we won't be notified till after the deadline of other schools.

A first year MPP student just Skyped with me. He asked what it was about the Ford School that made me apply, and what my biggest challenge in life has been, and if there was anything I wanted the admissions committee to pay attention to on my application. Then he answered some of my questions. It was totally chill and informal and actually made me feel more positively about the Ford School.

    Be prepared everyone!

I was also accepted into their MAIA program. It is a relative unknown to me as well even after all of the research I did. If there are any current students or alumni lurking around and could help us out, I am sure we would all appreciate it!

I just heard I was offered a spot on the wait list today. Not bad considering it's one of my top picks! Congrats to all those who received funding and offers!

Finally received the physical admissions letter. Nice to have the packet in my hand, but this wait for funding is driving me nuts!

Just received notice of admission to UT-LBJ for MPA. The email said financial support decisions will be finalized within the first two weeks of March...here's to hoping for some $$$!
