  1. Sorry, but creating new threads just to harass me, and continuing to make this a personal dispute leaves me no option but to give you the time out I promised. I'm not sure what playing video games has to do with being a supportive teacher and colleague, but little you have said in this thread is backed by reason -- it's pure opinion. I maintain that you have a right to that opinion, but you do not have a right to wage a personal war against me on this website. I cannot follow you around, locking or deleting threads that you create for no other purpose than to jerk me around. It's a waste of my time, and it harms this website. *Edit: I'm locking this thread entirely, since it seems to be a nexus for racial animosity. Since reason seems to go out the window when discussing these topics, I don't think any good will come of keeping this thread alive.
  2. Dawn of War II certainly ate up quite a bit of my summer. So did Overlord II. How did I get anything done!? Fragging newbs is good therapy; invest in a little preemptive catharsis, and you should have a wonderful semester.
  3. 1) This is another personal attack, and your final warning. If you cannot allow for other opinions on these forums (and I have every right to post my opinions here, just like everyone else), then we'll see if a "time out" will curb your attitude problems. 2) I had a very successful round of applications when I got into my PhD program. Moreover, my results and my personal life are none of your business. Please don't comment on them. 3) The only quality that these hypothetical "diversity admissions" could possess, based on the information you've provided, is darker colored skin. I don't see how you can argue that this should qualify or disqualify anyone for anything. 4) The point of all of this is that you are perpetuating racism by defining and privileging people based on the color of their skin. I don't care who gets what -- divvying up material goods based on phenotype is absurd and needs to end. (You have detached lobes so clearly you can't do this job!) 5) Your arguments about "historical wrongs" are nothing more than excuses to either 1) get revenge, or 2) get free stuff. That, or you've been brainwashed by your professors who are too high to realize the 60s are over and the civil rights movement won already.
  4. Since the purpose of this poll is merely to take a swipe at me, I'm going to lock it. Feel free to pm me with any further abuse, but let's keep it off the forums, please.
  5. Why not both? Literary Darwinism is a burgeoning field. You'd be getting in at the end of the first wave of this scholarly trend! Go bone up on your Dennett and your Richerson & Boyd!
  6. It's as they say: funding breeds funding. If you get the money, people like you. If not, well, "There was an uncommonly strong pool of applicants this year..."
  7. I'm sure you'd be much happier in a world where everyone subscribes to your groupthink, Yellow, but this world only exists in small pockets of academia. Sometimes you're going to run into people you can't brainwash - deal with it.
  8. That's the justification for racist policies in our government, anyway. Affirmative Action is racism to cure racism. Smart! As for your other claims, you have no proof for any of it. It's just a bunch of conjecture based on outdated race theory. I think it's time to find a new blind faith to preach.
  9. Kahlan, what's your U.S. History field? You can pm me, if you prefer.
  10. I've knocked back a few too many once in a while, and almost made an end-run around #8.
  11. Now you're just making stuff up. Argue honestly. Nobody would need to make a counter-claim if there was no claim in the first place. Unfortunately the claims never stop. And this is what annoys me. Well, that and the fact that people like you will say anything to make the claims true.
  12. Yeah. All sales are taxed in Washington -- unless you buy something from a church, I suppose. The U of Idaho bookstore is your best bet, if you want to buy in-person and not pay sales tax. I buy all of my stuff online. Even with sales tax, Amazon's used stuff is cheaper. There's also Half.com, Abe Books, Alibris, and a whole host of used book stores online. Just make sure to give yourself a couple of weeks for shipping. Everything takes at least two extra days to get to Pullman, for some reason.
  13. Step 1 for Humanists: Wash the patchouli off thy mangy fur. Step 1 for Scientists: Wash the harsh chemicals off thy hands. If female, ask a humanist how to apply makeup. If male, scrape the video game callouses off your thumbs. Step 2: Groom thyself. Step 3: Leave thy house. Step 4: Findest thou a human being. Step 5: Interact with human being (without preaching about recycling, racism, or how much better it is to be a Democrat). Step 6: Allow not too much of thy weirdness into the open at once. Step 7: Signal vague interest in later opportunities to socialize again. (Be neither eager nor aloof.) Step 8: Leave the social venue before thou art escorted off the premises by the noble Shirriff's men.
  14. In your quest to claim legitimacy, you assume too much. Nobody gives a flying @#$% if a white man gets arrested. There is no NAAWP to rouse the colorless rabble. Nobody cries "Race! Race! Race!" when bad things happen to white folks. (Or Asian folks, for that matter, since they seem to do well on standardized tests.) It's all a bunch of hypocritical bullshit. "Equality means more for me!"
  15. There is no sales tax in Idaho, so I try to buy most of my offline purchases in Moscow.
  16. Must everything be histrionics and hyperbole with you?
  17. That's pretty much the conclusion I've come to.
  18. This could be your last opportunity to do so until you're tenured. Take advantage!
  19. The cult of victimhood has tainted yet another thread. I wonder if there's anything we cannot blame on white folks, or wealthy people, or whoever is bringing Rabelaisian down today. At least there's always someone to take responsibility for our failures, this way.
  20. Same discussion here: viewtopic.php?f=56&t=18876 Thread locked.
  21. This is certainly what Ivy League grads would like to think. As often as not, pedigree hurts the private college grad, since they think that they don't need to do any work other than merely showing up with that sheepskin in hand. Existence alone is not impressive.
  22. Besides the 911 call saying there was someone breaking into the house? Or are you neglecting his refusal to cooperate, his disturbance of the peace, or his threatening actions? On the other hand, not every incident involving cops is a conspiracy. Not every interaction between races involves the white man keeping a 'brother' down. You've all been so well trained to see abuse and claim victimhood that it's everywhere you turn. As for the white folks, I hope they get processed and set free, as well. Nothing teaches a person better manners than a big bureaucratic hassle taking up their entire day. Next time they'll say "please" and "thank you, officer!"
  23. But the unruliness case was still open. Again, this is what happens when you act like a douchebag to cops who are just trying to do their jobs.
