  1. In my acceptance letter, it specifically says "self-funded." It's probably because I am an international student whose first language isn't English. I emailed the school, and was told that a TAship would be possible if I pass the SPEAK test. But it's unclear to me if funding would occur in the first year or afterwards. They did suggest me applying for Graduate Assistantships. However, I am not sure if Buffalo funds all their incoming students. Also, I have been waitlisted for funding in a few schools. It IS frustrating.
  2. I am Victorian and I might also turn down the offer from Buffalo. I was told that down the road I could get funding, but I do not want to take the risk. I believe that their presidential and university fellowships are awared based on GRE score. However, their offer of Teaching assistantships has nothing to do with GRE. That is my take.
  3. Puzzlingly, there are two schools from which I've not heard a word on my application. I am certain that these two schools have already sent out their acceptances, and one also sent out rejections. I really have no idea what's going on. This waiting game is not fun at all.
  4. Just wondering, why is he pathetic? Is it because of his answer to the student's question? I actually find it witty...Maybe it's me..LOL..
  5. It's cool. No offense taken. I am in general very insensitive to racial issues.
  6. Being Chinese myself, I am not sure if I am supposed to laugh, but it is funny.
  7. Something similar happens to me too. In my SOP for one school, I mentioned a professor whose research interest I am in line with. However, when I re-read it, I realized that the professor DOES not teach in that school. That's very bad!
  8. I am just curious about whether or not offering an unfunded acceptance is a common practice. I'd assume that any incoming PhD student would be funded.
  9. Are there U Buffalo admits here? I need to ask a question! I just checked the app website, and realized that my application status had been changed to Accept/Admit today. However, Acceptance Confirmation still reads: NA. What does this mean? I hope it means something good! But I have not heard from the school yet. I DO not want to get my hopes high, though.
