  1. Thanks for letting us know! I need to accept/reject a few offers by next week, so I'm happy that U of T is finally getting around to sending acceptances/rejections out. EDIT: This isn't to say, of course, that waiting until Monday/Tuesday won't be next to impossible to do. I just can't deal with not knowing...
  2. I want to thank everyone who gave me advice about my impending decision. You guys are amazing! I hope that money won't be much of an issue, and I think that many of you are correct in pointing out that it will likely be more valuable for me to have a M.A. specifically in anthro if I want to pursue an anthro PhD (which I do). I've all but decided; I'm going to meet with my PoI again next week, and meet with some current students at the same time. Does anyone have any suggestions for anthro-specific questions to ask the current students?
  3. Ok everyone, I need your help. I'm going to assume for now that I'm not going to get in to any of the other programs I applied to, so right now my challenge is deciding between two programs at the same university. Here's my issue: Program 1: - Traditional anthropology program (focusing on medical anthropology) - Overall less funding - No guaranteed TA position which means that the funding they would give me isn't tied to work, but I would also prefer to have TA experience as I apply to PhD programs this fall - Guaranteed supervisor who has been amazing - she let me know when I was admitted (weeks before the offer itself arrived), has been communicative throughout the process, and is supposed to be a great professor in general. She's doing work in a field I'm very interested in. - Average reputation (within Canada only) - the program is relatively well-known, but the school itself is best known for its medical school and sciences, not social sciences - Relatively large cohort of graduate students (MA and PhD) Program 2: - Interdisciplinary program (globalization studies) - More funding overall, most of which is tied to a TA position - The program invites students to design their own program of study: they offer courses, but also let students take any course offered at the university (with permission from the other department) - I would have to find my own supervisor, but I would be able to work with any willing professor currently working at the university - Better than average reputation - the program is relatively new (10 years old), but it's one of the first of its kind, and there's regularly a series of visiting scholars who are excited to come and study/teach at the school - Small cohort of MA students only (there is no PhD program) Since both programs are at the same school, then none of the city-specific issues that often arise when making these decisions affect me. Right now, the only issues I'm struggling with are the nature of the program that I want to take, and the funding offered. Do any of you have any insight into interdisciplinary programs and PhD application prospects? I asked the program director about that and they said they have a lot of success placing graduates into well-regarded PhD programs (but he didn't offer any specifics). I would feel really bad if I turned down either offer - the advisor I would be working with for Program 1 has been amazing, and the director of Program 2 took a lot of time to try to convince me that his program was right for me. Anyway - I would love any insight all of you could provide! I will be cross-posting this in the "Interdisciplinary programs" section (FYI to all mods!)

  5. I just tried logging into ROSI. All of Sarahb's steps work, but since I obviously haven't been admitted yet, I wasn't able to do anything once I entered the system. So you may be able to log in, but you will probably only be able to use the system if some program has offered you admission.
  6. You may want to consider asking for a little extra time to make your decision - the worst thing they can say is "no". You could also email the department at U of T and ask when they will be contacting applicants. I tried the second option (contacting departments at U of T) and didn't hear back from any of them.
  7. From what I can see using the results aggregator, rejections tend to come through the mail and acceptances tend to come by email. Some people contacted the department directly after seeing "decision made" pop up on the SGS website and then discovered that they were rejected. I'm guessing that if you haven't heard anything by....Wesnesday (??), then you can probably expect to get a rejection letter in the mail.
  8. The same happened to me. You will likely either get an email acceptance within the next few days, or a rejection letter in the mail within the next week or so.
  9. Sucks... I got a rejection today too - I was expecting it, but it still hurts to get rejected. I'm consoling myself with some good chocolate and a glass of bourbon. I don't know whether you drink or not, but if so, I'd suggest you try something similar.
  10. My PoI at McMaster contacted me independently and told me that I was admitted. She said to expect an offer within a few weeks. Before the offer came out she followed up and let me know about funding. Context: she has been fantastic and responsive throughout the application process, so I wasn't that surprised when she decided to contact me herself.
  11. CONGRATS! That's amazing news! I hope you have the time to celebrate properly today (or this weekend). Was this your top choice?
  12. Got an acceptance from Mac today (via email). I'm still waiting to hear anything from U of T, which makes me think I was rejected from all three programs.
  13. Just got the official admission notice from McMaster - I applied to their Anthropology of Health MA. They offered a scholarship but no TAship. I have another offer with a TAship - would you guys suggest I try to get them to match the other offer?
  14. Why does a MA or PhD (or MPhil/DPhil) from a UK university prevent you from teaching in the US? I was planning on applying to some UK programs, so I would love to get a better understanding of this issue.
  15. Quote We don't use it in Canada and we get along juuuuust fine. Down with standardized testing!
  16. Eek! Sorry about posting so many times. Computer malfunction!
  17. Quick question: is this for the PhD and/or Master's programs?

  21. According to the results page, they sent rejections out by mail last year. They may do it by email this year, but there's no way to be sure.
  22. Agreed! I checked my (real, not email) mailbox three times today after seeing that pop up on their application site. I assume the official rejection will arrive sometime next week.
