  1. He was not admitted off the wait list, actually. And, as of now, he has two offers and two wait lists; and one of the wait lists is his top choice, so I assume he'll try and "wait for it…" (I'm sorry, I just couldn't help it! haha) What I don't know is how Fordham stacks up against the other offer (or the other wait list). I can ask him next time I see him. Best of luck!
  2. I know a guy who was admitted a few weeks ago and another guy who was rejected a couple weeks ago. I don't know whether they're done accepting. I know that some schools keep some applications on hand---a back up wait list of sorts---just in case they burn through their wait list; if so, the fact that you haven't been rejected might mean that you're on such a "list." Have you emailed the department to inquire about your status?
  3. Virginia's a gorgeous state, especially where Blacksburg is.
  4. I thought it might be helpful to have forum where people can inform others about any offers (or wait lists) they are (or will be) declining. Any news? Best of luck to everyone as April 15 approaches!
  5. I've emailed the department secretary twice, and in both instances she replied that she had forwarded the message to Dr Hopp. But it's been a week or so and I have yet to hear anything. I did email Dr Hopp today. I suppose silence is better right now since they are sending out rejections.
  6. Thanks for the info. Did Hopp email you back or was it automated? I haven't received anything yet.
  7. Can the person who posted a rejection from BU give any more info? I've emailed the department secretary, who said she forwarded my email to Walter Hopp, yet I haven't heard anything for a while now.
  8. Denied from Iowa. I don't get it. Oh well, better offers are on the table.
  9. A friend of mine was accepted and nominated for a fellowship at FSU in late January. But aside from him, I know of no one else who has been admitted, rejected, or wait listed. Have you tried emailing the department?
  10. Anyone visiting UCSB in the coming weeks?
  11. Well done!!! That's fantastic news! Go Gators
  12. Try Fuller Theological Seminary. Oliver Crisp would be the person you'd want to speak with. He's a theologian but is also well versed in analytic theology.
  13. Dangerous indeed! If I were in the top 10, I would be sleeping with one eye open!
  14. Not as cool as yours!
  15. Anybody want to claim the Iowa wait list?
  16. Thank you!
  17. Thanks!! I've heard lots of great things about the place. I am in Orange County and I can't wait to visit their department.
  18. I'm claiming the UCSB acceptance.
  19. Indeed, it was the second: I received my letter today, most likely because I live further away (and so the mail took an extra day to arrive). I am officially denied by Johns Hopkins.
  20. Wow, thanks for outing me, guys. Now everyone *knows* who I am.
  21. Sorry to hear about the rejections. I've been out town, so I checked my mail today for the first time since last Wednesday and found nothing. I wonder whether that's because I'm not rejected or because it takes mail longer to travel to the West Coast (where I currently live).
  22. I can also confirm that a friend of mine was admitted (quite early) to FSU. That's the only admit I know of, though.
  23. Thanks for the contribution. I agree with what you say about appreciating the work of Rawls and Co. I also think you're right that my list is weighted toward contemporary, as opposed to historical, ethics. But alas, no reading list, if it aims to be at all manageable, can be so exhaustive as to include both. The list I gave was primarily a starter for those interested in analytic philosophy. It is, of course, insufficient! As a side note, the works are not listed in any particular order. So, for example, the list's maker isn't suggesting, by the fact that Ayer isn't first on the list, that Ayer should not be read first. Edit: All this assuming, of course, that you were talking about my list and not that of another poster!
  24. Thanks for the comment. You might be right the Stich's text deserves to be on the list; I haven't read it, so I can't definitively say. Indeed, there are a great many books that are not included on the list. But one cannot read every great book in order to get a good "lay of the land" (so to speak) of themes in analytic philosophy. My list was merely a reflection of what one philosopher suggested. No doubt it's a good list; all of its members deserve to be there, although another good list with different members could also be formed.
  25. Again, out of the TWENTY FOUR items on the list, only FOUR were by the Notre Dame philosophers. That hardly counts as evidence of bias; nor does it suggest that the list's author thinks the "universe of metaphysics center around Notre Dame Christian Philosophers" (whatever that happens to mean). And, like we've already said, three of those books were influential in forming current debates in metaphysics and epistemology; and the fourth is a very good introduction. Thus, they are rightly listed. You're the one who's asserted bias, and the only reasons you've offered in support of that claim are that the list is from a former Notre Dame PhD (irrelevant) and that a few of the items on the list were written by Notre Dame philosophers who happen to be religious (also irrelevant). This is my last comment on this matter.
