Thanks! I'm glad I have other options if it doesn't, but I feel compelled to wait til I hear from UCSB about funding before making a decision because it is such a strong fit I hope everyone else gets good news today--including full funding!!
-
I was accepted by UCSB but wait listed for funding. It's probably one of my top fits, but the funding sure puts a damper on things!
-
Congrats dewbackguy! And to all the other admits!

Some of my dream advisers are retired, nearing retirement or not even in my field. William Cronon comes to mind. My work is so far from environmental/western history, but he's my favorite author. I recommend Nature's Metropolis to random people on the train all the time. But I agree with telkanuru, too. All the scholars I applied to work with would be a dream come true for me.

Congrats to the Buffalo admit!
-
Congrats Chiqui!!! That's so exciting!!!

If you want bourbon, it's never too early! Sorry to hear about the rejection. It's their loss!
-
Sorry to hear that Magellan but it's so great that you have an acceptance already! Are you waiting on many more programs?
-
No apologies necessary, I really love the work of several scholars there but had a weird feeling about applying. I get these "woo woo" feelings sometimes, which totally belie my logical historian side, but hey, my mom was a Wiccan for a long time. You'll get in somewhere great! I'm sorry to hear you were rejected, though I am a firm believer that we end up where we need to be. There I go with the "woo woo" again

FYI to other Northwestern applicants, I just checked the website and found out I was rejected. Best of luck to the rest of you!
-
And another Northwestern admit. Congratulations!! And hugs for the JHU and Harvard rejections.
-
I edited my comment because I realized you'd actually mentioned your period in a previous one, but I had rudely skimmed it! Sounds really interesting one of my best profs was a colonial historian, she did a lot of work on loyalists during the revolution.
-
Congrats to the Penn and Berkeley admits!
-
Argh I'm out of upvotes once again! Congrats Fianna!!! That's awesome news
-
It sounds like a dream Didn't SHAFR's journal Diplomatic History recently get moved to IU? I know one of the profs I'd love to work with is an editor.
-
That's great advice...those will always be a pick-me-up!

catsandscarves -- thanks for mentioning withdrawing applications. I'm going to withdraw a few once I receive funding information from a program that, as of now, is probably my top choice. I think waiting for funding is hugely important, though. No need to make a rash decision before the money is on the table! My profs told me that an acceptance without funding is like a really nice rejection.
-
I'm almost positive northwestern will notify both acceptances and rejections the same day, maybe the next as well. That seems to be the trend, though trends change so who really knows. And wait, Gambaosaka, I didn't think anyone had heard from Indiana yet?
-
erchha -- welcome aboard! I wouldn't count Northwestern out just yet, but if acceptances started rolling out today then I'd expect them to be done sometime today, if history serves. Rejections usually occur at the same time or close behind. For what it's worth, I've checked my application page and it still says no decision has been rendered.
-
Northwestern doesn't have a formal interview process, sometimes POIs will contact students informally.
-
Congrats to the Northwestern admit!!
-
Good luck Ivan!!!

Oh yeah that's totally how I read. Usually I have multiple "fluff" novels I read at night, books assigned in courses and general reading for research topics floating around. Drives my friends crazy...apparently I'm supposed to commit to one book at a time
-
Josh, that still sounds very promising! If the POI said that, then I'm sure other programs will also see what a strong applicant you are!
-
BearBait -- welcome to the board and congrats on W&M!! Gambaosaka -- Congrats on UCLA! And I feel ridiculously lucky! Im doubly excited to see some fellow gradcafe members getting into awesome places, and it'll only get better in the coming weeks as more people finally get in! Everyone, keep in mind many of these acceptances were informal, which means more people will get in once official notices come out Edit: congratulations to all the Stanford admits!!! It's such a gorgeous school, not to mention an amazing program! And the Hoover Institution...there are no words...
