If you can choose either TA or RA, which one would you pick? Most first-year students tend to do TA and then get a RA position next year. What kind of benefits would RA-ship bring to the students? Any slim chance of publication out of first year research work? Is it frowned upon not working as a TA in the first year? Any input would be much appreciated.

keano1414, thanks for your reply. I am planning to focus on urban sociology, poverty and research methodology. I guess the Masters Program acceptance is only offered to those who were rejected from the PhD Program. They didn't mention anything about MAPSS on my waitlist letter. When did you find out that you finally received an offer last year? how late in April?

Why are they sending out rejection emails one by one (not by group) ? I just want to get my rejection letter......so that I can move on.

I hope so! ...Mmost of the people who reported their admits on the result page are American. Only one UCLA admit is Intnl. None of the Stanford admits is Intnl. I am an intnl student ....but currently in the masters program here in the States. Oh my god........this waiting is driving me crazy.

I have bad feelings that....my hopes for Stanford are sealed........And the same thing with UCLA. They usually let all admitted students know about the decision on the same day...........If I don't hear from them today, I think I am dinged.

Hi, One of my friends already has external funding (40,000) for her PhD studies. But her GRE scores are not spectacular (just above 1300). Will that external fellowship work in her favors? Will she have much better shot at top 5 schools? Any ideas would be much appreciated!

thanks for all your replies... yes I misread the limit...i thought 700 words ....I had to cut down my 1-page essay to only a few sentences....oh well... My GRE is mediocre...and....Stanford is a dream school...for me... where else are you applying?
