@shuca Hi! I've been lurking this thread for awhile so I finally decided to say something @ladyinwaiting23 aw thank you! Yeah, it was my first time visiting Boston for my BU interview and I fell in love. I could totally see myself spending a chunk of my 20's there. Great vibes, and one little thing I was amazed at- even the advertisements on the subway were all medical/academic related! And I can't believe you thought you wouldn't get in anywhere a year ago- look at all of your amazing options now. We're often our own toughest critics, which isn't always such a bad thing I guess... I can't wait to hear everyone's experiences/input after the open house

I appreciate all of your guys' insight so much!!!! Just 24 hours ago I had all but decided to go the less expensive route, but my heart cannot seem to let go of Boston and all of the opportunities it would bring as a world class medical hub. I never thought it would be this hard to decide- for some reason I thought that I'd magically know when I started hearing back from schools. I've been reminded that this is a life long investment- even though we'll be paying off loans for probably another 20 years, the name will also stay with us forever and might ultimately open more doors if we work hard in grad school. I know people say it doesn't matter where you go for grad school for SLP, but I find it hard to believe that the experiences you'd gain at such an established, respected institution won't benefit you beyond what you might learn at a school with fewer resources. I think that if you were to take advantage of every opportunity at a school like MGH, it could absolutely be more worth it (adult neurogenic concentration, research opportunities, hook ups at the most respected hospitals in the country, etc.). I know that local schools around my area do not have the same sort of resources. This all being said, I realize I might wake up one morning and go the other way again. I just have to remind myself to be grateful regardless and know that every choice is truly a good choice, albeit for different reasons.

Probably! Still waiting on options here in Cali... I have a feeling I will be making my decision close to the deadline, but hopefully I can make a decision ASAP so I can free up space on waitlists!

I'm with you SLPlovin! I'm a bit sad because I really wanted to go to one of those great schools... but the rational side of me can't (and I've tried) justify taking out an extra 80k in loans. What's meant to be is meant to be though, and I'm sure we'll be well-prepared wherever we go. Are you planning on going to a local school in Michigan?

slpandme, that would be so helpful! Thank you! And I completely agree that these are good problems to have, but that doesn't make the choice any easier I saw on the results page that someone got a scholarship to Rush, so you (and SLPlovin) might want to check your email/Rush portal. If you can't log in, call the IS help desk and they will give you your username/password over the phone. I unfortunately didn't receive anything, but maybe you did!

I don't know if I'm being completely unrealistic but I hope today is the day!!!!! -
I regret not applying to SDSU!!! I reeeallyyy want to go to BU, but I felt like I was getting heart palpitations when I calculated the amount of loans I'd have to take out. </3

To my knowledge this doesn't include summer session, but Cal State tuition is generally inexpensive and it shouldn't be too much more.

Ladyinwaiting, graduate tuition is $8,000 for the entire year. (!!!!) The extra $12,000 is supposed to be for living costs. I know this because I am a California resident Congrats!!! Great school AND completely reasonable tuition

I had the same question when I was applying to schools, so I actually emailed every school on my list and asked if they would accept astronomy for the physics/chem requirement. About half of the schools said they'd take it and the other half said no. So my advice to you would be to email the schools that you're considering and see if you get lucky

I emailed and asked if we would be considered for funding if other applicants turned it down, and the financial aid officer basically said no. "Unfortunately, merit aid is only offered at time of admission." oh well!
-
SLPlovin, did you fill out the financial aid form for rush? I'm really wondering what the chances are of getting aid, and whether they'll inform us before the April 15 deadline. ASHA's edfind website says that a decent number of people got aid, so I was going to call Rush tomorrow and see how that works. It would make a huge difference if any of the schools schools we applied to would let us know before decision time...

Hi guys! I've been lurking this forum since January, and it's amazing to see everyone so supportive of each other! Now that I've been hearing back from schools I had some questions... Does anyone know anything about the program at Rush? Right now I'm in between Boston University (I loved it when I visited for interviews), Rush and maybe MGH. BU is just so expensive, and would cost me about 20k total more than Rush. I'm interested in the med side of SLP so I know Rush would be a good fit, but I'm wondering if anyone has visited the program/ have heard of students' opinions. I won't be able to make the orientation so I'll have to sort of figure things out the best I can. Thanks in advance!!!
