  1. Again with a cool status. I'm glad you're comfortable, I'm waiting for the worms.

  2. Hi folks, for what it's worth, I'm one of the Greene 50, but an outside shot. All interviews etc. are apparently completed, with final decisions to be made and notified in the first week of March. Best of luck to you all.
  3. Too much grad school will kill you, if you can't make up your mind...

  4. I realise this is off topic, but I think it might be a sign of burnout that I read '3.8 earthquake in Chicago' and thought "that's virtually the highest you can get!" Yes, I converted the Richter scale to GPA. *sigh*
  5. If I may be so bold, you might want to attach a link to that video to your applications. That, with a short message saying "I trust this will settle the matter" would guarantee you admission to any department I was running.
  6. Yep, that's what my real focus was. Fit really couldn't have been better, as far as Duke is concerned, my Masters is based very heavily on the work of my P(s)OI there. Contacted them too. Interestingly, though, I didn't apply to Yale because they seemed to stress the importance of hard science background! Still, there're a couple more to go. Thanks for the info!
  7. Aha. Good stuff. It looks like my lack of undergrad chem, bio, etc. is my major failing at the moment. Did you have that sort of experience in your background? I'm most cut up about my rejection from Duke's IPCN, so I'm wondering how much that played a role. Thanks!
  8. That was fantastic. Can a gradcafe member claim responsibility?

  10. I was getting such a lovely buzz from reading this thread, until I noticed the 2009 tags. Curses, now I feel alone again. Cogneuroforfun, would you mind giving a bit of info on your stats and academic background? You interviewed at all the places I wish had contacted me by now.
  11. I'm 7 hours ahead of east coast schools at this point, which means I've been getting up as late as possible, etc. etc. However, universities in my country open next week, and I have to lecture and TA, which means hour after agonising hour... Oh, and also the waiting. PGL.
  12. I've got 11 apps out there. One of my longshots rejected me, but I have 10 buckets of silence - and I know, for certain, that at least 4 of those committes have already met to decide. Personally, I'm considering silence to be the administrative pause before rejection.
  13. I'm with Rogue on this one, I lurked for most of this season, but (presuming I actually do well), I can use my new-found status to help out with the next batch of questions. Maybe we should set up a little group that sifts through all the previous posts and compiles the best advice into a big "read this first" document?
  14. I'm predicting 2/11 maximum. More likely 1 or 0. I'm currently 0/1
  15. If I'm allowed to take things back in time for a bit, I'd suggest you try two Hitchcock films: North by Northwest, which is one of my favourites, and Vertigo, which I'm about to use to dull the pain of my first rejection! I'd also suggest Goya's Ghosts, The Diving Bell and The Butterfly, The Counterfeiters, and, of course, the final final cut of Blade Runner. *sigh*. Sometimes I wonder what it'd be like if I didn't have such wonderful taste. Good luck everyone.
