  1. This is my second time applying! I am freaking out too haha. I applied to SLP last year to Mcgill, U of T, and Western. I am writing the GRE in four days (eek!) and then teaching English abroad this year while working on my applications! I am reapplying to the same schools as well as applying to U of A and Dal now that I will have the GRE. Best of luck to all!
  2. Hey! I applied to grad school last year (for fall 2014) and was unsuccessful. I only applied to Mcgill and the Ontario schools. So I have decided to write the GRE so I can also apply to U of A and Dalhousie for next year. I have also uped my sGPA from 3.76 to a 3.92, and now have 100 hours volunteering with an SLP (instead of 20). But my overall question is, what should I be aiming for on the GRE? I write in 3 weeks, and I have taken a complete practise test and got 156 V/ 153 Q (and unmarked essays). Any advice? Anyone know what U of A and Dal are looking for? Thanks so much! I'm already freaking out about next application season :S haha
  3. Also, does anyone know if Mcgill look at overall gpa, not the last 60 credit units? I thought that it was my most recent marks that mattered, but I am coming to understand this may not be true.
  4. Are you guys talking about overall gpa, or in the last 60? My overall is only 3.65 (ORPAS), but in the last 60 credit units its 3.92. Would you say that this is not high enough for the Ontario schools? My sights are set at U of T
  5. I think I am going to make my degree a research degree in first semester, and continue my volunteering with an SLP. Then after I reapply, second semester I'm thinking about working on my French/traveling to India for a month.
  6. Just wondering which programs you found that said that? I do think honours looks good when you apply, but I'm wondering if that is just because it means you have research experience?
  7. Hey! I have already gotten a lot of great ideas about where to go from here. I am currently deciding if I should go into an honours program in linguistics and would like some advise. I am already getting research this summer, and I think that might be the only benefit to honours. The main thing holding me back from doing an honours is that I would need three extra classes, and those classes would knock my best marks off my transcript (third year first semester, my grades were all above 95). It would be hard to do that well on these classes as they will be more difficult. I am wondering what people think, did you do your honours? Do you think it helped with your application?
  8. Hey, just wanting to send you some encouraging remarks. I applied to McGill, U of T, and Western also this year and have been rejected from them all. (haven't actually heard from U of T, but I emailed Mabel and got no response so I'm doubting I got wait listed). I feel the same way, and have been crying all morning. I have really great grades, keeping my marks above 90 since I realized this is what I want to do. However, when I started University I wasn't as motivated and those marks are showing through. All I know is that I will try again, and I'm sure you will too. I emailed the speech pathologist I volunteer for this morning and told her the news (that I would be volunteering still this next year). She was so kind and told me that I must keep trying and that not getting in will make me appreciate it so much more when I do. She also did not get in her first time applying. So for all of us who are not screaming in joy, and weighing our options, chin up! I believe in hard work, dedication, and you all.
  9. haha so many users are on this forum right now- Everyone is just passing the time until midnight. It's like a twisted Cinderella story
  10. Hello lovely people. Just wanted to add my voice to those rejected from McGill. I'm reassured by the quality of other applicants also rejected, knowing that with this calibre of people rejection does not reflect poorly on my intelligence, nor potential as an SLP. Good luck to all on April 1st.
  11. Guys... I am trying to stay positive too, but it's getting hard. This week long stress (since McGill began admitting) has been so painful. Any program would be lucky to have such passionate SLP's as you guys. Fingers crossed, and rabbits feet in hand for all of us (though I'm not superstitious at this point I'll take the good luck charms) Whatever the answer, may we find out soon.
  12. Wow, thanks for that information! I didn't even know where to start with the GRE, and now I do. I guess that makes sense that they do acceptances in waves. Yeah hopefully all of us waiting on McGill hear back soon! I'm glad/sad that you can commiserate nicolafloo! haha As I keep saying to myself, 'Maybe tomorrow'
  13. Yay SALY!!! I'm super excited for you! I wish I could have applied to U of A, but I have been avoiding writing the GRE.. haha I might end up writing it this summer if nothing works out. I was so disappointed when nothing happened with McGill again today.. I just want to know.
  14. I also found this, my University uses percent grade, and my calculated percent for the past 2 years to be 86%, which on ORPAS should be a 3.8. But when ORPAS sent me my sGPA it said 3.72. I wonder if they just weight it differently.
  15. Thanks PsycD! It's true, its hard to escape undergrad without a bad grade. These applications are just making me GPA crazy. Also, congrats to kay0928!!! Your stats are amazing! I love hearing about people succeeding on this forum.
  16. Hey guys, so I've been reading this forum for a while now, and finally decided to contribute. I have a sGPA of 3.72 (ORPAS), and my cumulative GPA is 3.6. I had 32 hours with an SLP and hundreds of hours of related volunteer work at the time of application. But I think my best selling point is that I had a speech impediment as a child. I applied to McGill and haven't heard yet, which is definitely implying rejection at this point. My best friend got her acceptance from there last Tuesday. I also applied to U of T and Western. My GPA is so low due to a biochemistry course I took in second year, when that was still my major (big mistake). Any ways, there are some amazing people applying to this program, and I would completely understand if I don't get accepted this year. I hope everyone hears good news soon.
