  1. Has anyone put in applications for cultural anthropology PhD, and have you heard back from any schools yet? Emory wrote all applicants to say interview invites will go out after February 8th, but it's not one of my top picks, to be honest.
  2. I can't bring myself to do any academic reading until I know I've gotten in. I work full-time with two jobs, do yoga, walk, and hang out with my boyfriend. And eat. And obsessively check my e-mail, too. ;P
  3. Woo. I'm not alone anymore. And, probably not, I'm in Florida, so I haven't attended anything. ;/
  4. For a PhD or for MA? I applied to Duke and Rutgers, as well. Who knows, maybe I'll be seeing you in the fall.
  5. Just received an e-mail from Emory saying that interview invitations will be sent out after February 8th to be held in March, and that you're only invited if you receive the e-mail...otherwise, it'll be nothing.
  6. Nothing yet. I'm biding my time, but it's hard living with my parents and waiting to see if my life will be able to move forward or not. I'm 25, I got back in July from living in China for two straight years with the U.S. Peace Corps, I'm fluent in Mandarin Chinese, and I am applying for PhD in cultural anthropology to the schools listed in my signature with a focus on China. I am a full-time server and a part-time Chinese translator for a local loan consultation company here in east coast Florida. I'm so nervous, because I'm not sure what I would do next if I didn't get in to one of my desired schools... Anyone care to join me in whining and waiting? GRE: V161 Q156 AWA5.5
  7. I just want to get into a PhD program where they throw a bunch of money at me -- is that so much to ask for? ;P
  8. How do any of you have any results yet? Is Anthropology just that slow? GRE: V161 Q157 AWA5.5 I did the Peace Corps in China for two straight years, I'm rather fluent in Mandarin Chinese, and I hope to pursue a cultural anthropology PhD with a focus on women and sexuality in western China. I think the schools I chose are a bit out of my league, and UW is the only MA I applied for -- the rest are all PhDs. Ugh, I am so nervous. I hope to start hearing SOMETHING back by the end of February, but I am so nervous!
  9. Hey, so I got verbal 161, quant 154 and don't know my AWA yet, but I am applying to Cultural Anthro PhD programs at all top tier schools. Do I have a chance? I have strong recommendations, a thesis from undergrad, and I will have just come back from 2 years in the Peace Corps in China, the country of my research focus. I already have advanced Mandarin Chinese skills, too. Should I worry about taking the test again?
