  1. Starting a joint MA in International Affairs and Urban and Regional Planning in the fall.
  2. Rejected from Rutgers. Oh, well! Congrats to those admitted.
  3. Has anyone heard anything at all from Rutgers? I checked my status and it still says no decision. Ugh.
  4. Congrats to those who got accepted to U Chicago!

  6. Were you invited to recruitment weekend at Emory, too, by the way? Also, my interviews went really well and I feel like they were pretty laid back!
  7. So were you interviewed, too, busybee?
  8. I have been interviewed by two different POIs at Emory. Fingers crossed! They seem interested in my research and want more China scholars at Emory, so I may be a shoe-in! The first interviewer said I have his vote, the second one called my research 'fascinating', so only time will tell!
  9. Haha, I hope I'm on the waitlist at Duke, because I sure as hell wasn't accepted! Honestly, I feel like a rejection from Duke is imminent.
  10. Oh, yes, we have. So how many acceptances did you receive?
  11. Okay, great! So do you now attend Emory? It's interesting because I thought Emory was the least close fit for me and my interests, haha.
  12. Did you get in? And who interviewed you? My POI is interviewing me, her name is Jenny Chio.
  13. Hello, all! I just got an interview from from my POI at Emory for this Friday! So how does this interview thing work? Does anyone have any advice or suggestions for me? I'm so excited! I'm good enough to be interviewed!
  14. The waiting game is one I am ill-equipped to play.
  15. Has anyone else, like me, heard nothing as of yet? ;D
  16. I just realized that Princeton would have been an excellent fit for me, not U Penn. I applied to the wrong school, and I could've gotten the app fee waived for being a Peace Corps volunteer. Oh, well! So it goes. Hopefully admission to Rutgers could mean that I'd be able to work closely with faculty at Princeton, too.
  17. I think I would move back to China and attempt an MA there, because at the end of the day, I could make a career out of speaking Mandarin Chinese, since it's in such high demand. I recently realized that I should've applied to Princeton and not U Penn, but oh well. I'm really counting on an acceptance letter to Rutgers, but I also think I'd get into the MA in China Studies at UW I applied for, so we'll see what happens. Maybe it's time for me to take the MA route as opposed to the PhD one, but we shall see what unfolds! Either way, I'm alive, healthy, financially sound, and I speak rather fluent Mandarin. I'll be okay. And so will you! My verbal score wasn't as good as yours, but I believe it's within the average for the schools to which I applied. I really regret not applying to Princeton now, but so it goes. Shrug.
  18. I feel the same way. What would I do with my life?! How old are you? What are your interests? GRE scores? I feel like these questions are so personal. ;P
  19. Duke has apparently sent out some interview requests to people...not me, haha. ;P
  20. I can understand Chongqing dialect (or I could when I left), but I do not speak it except for a few words. What are your interests? You're an international student? Where are you applying to? Good luck! 我们也能用普通话交流,都可以。你考了GRE吗?
  21. I am a Fall 2016 applicant aiming to focus on Chinese anthropology. Am I alone? Anyone else with a China focus? I wonder if I have a good chance of getting accepted into a program since research on China is somewhat of a 'hot' topic at the moment, both nationwide and worldwide. I have been studying Mandarin Chinese since 2009 and I lived in western China for two years teaching English with the U.S. Peace Corps. I am fluent in the language, but my undergrad major was International Area Studies (focusing on China), not Anthropology, though I took many anthro classes and one of my three recommenders is an anthro professor. I went to a small liberal arts honors college in Florida boasting a pass/fail system to evaluate its students, so I have no undergrad GPA, technically. Am I alone in my focus on China?
  22. Not much Chinese happening here, I see.
  23. Where did you apply to? If I already asked you this, I apologize. ;P Glad you're safe after the fire!
