I know it is not our department, but seeing the Harvard results from science, anthropology, physics, and such come in, does get my heart racing... Even though we are probably going to have to wait until the end of Feb.
Basic, but decent introductions:
The World's Religions by Huston Smith
God Is Not One: The Eight Rival Religions That Run the World by Stephen Prothero
A Little History of Religion by Richard Holloway
Living Religions by Mary Pat Fisher and Robin Rinehart
Rice's program in the History of American Religion is brand new, this is their first year. I have applied to it, pretty much as a safety option. What makes me nervous about it is the lack of faculty but it is exciting because of some of the new directions they want. According to my meeting with the faculty, they are planning to make it financially alluring for students to come to Rice.
When I visited UVA, everyone said they did not do interviews. This could change of course, but when I went to UVA to check it out, none of the Ph.D. students had done it.
Just knowing Stanford has called my recommenders is giving me panic attacks. I have seen other departments at Stanford have reached out and asked for interviews, but no one in the Religion Department. I am trying to be cool but it is difficult.
I looked at my update and yes, it is there. They want a " Certification Service" communication about this or if I am even in the program or if this is needed to even be considered. To be frank, I do not want to pay another $125 if I not even going to be accepted. I dunno, should I email someone at Stanford and ask them what is up?
Yes I am currently at YDS. Hmmmm no interviews from the Yale Divinity students... Oh dear. We have been completely out of the loop if they have not interviewed YDS students yet. Or arent going too...
I might be mistaken but no one who applied to Yale from Yale has received interview requests. It is possible they wont, but we have not heard anything... but I could be completely out of the loop. One of our students got in UNC Chapel.
