  1. WriterTyger, I don't think there's anything wrong with calling. They should understand that most schools expect a response by the April 15 deadline, and that the majority of their waitlisters are trying to get their plans finalized. So you could absolutely call and simply say that, because other schools expect your decision soon, you'd like to know what your chances at funding will be if you are accepted from the waitlist. This late in the game, I think it's completely reasonable to elicit information from the department in order to make your final decisions.
  2. I was wondering the same thing. Also, apixelrevolt--I saw your reply to my post in the turned down offers thread. Sent you a PM.
  3. I was reading something on this written by a professor at U of Northern Iowa (here it is: http://www.uni.edu/~gotera/gradapp/results.htm). He says that, no, you shouldn't turn it down. But then he quotes a professor who says basically what the above posters have said. I tend to think that, yeah, this is your life and it's a huge committment. You want to make the best decision. Also, (as the article mentions) the school has a whole line of eager and qualified applicants below you. So it's not like you're really leaving the program or grad director in a bind, especially because it's not April 15 yet. If you were to wait until after April 15 to turn them down, then it might be a problem. So I'd say just do it as soon as possible, so that the school still has time to extend the offer to waitlisted applicants and all that. Anyway, congrats on the new offer!
  4. Hi everybody. Long time lurker, first time poster here. I've been accepted to UDub, but am waitlisted for funding, which has (of course) turned fun-loving ol' me into a tightly wound ball of anxious anticipation. I appeal to the gradcafe (please) to soothe my stressing! Is anybody, anybody at all, planning to turn down one of Washington's precious funded offers?????
