  1. I was in the same position, where I knew I wouldn't choose Emerson over my other schools. I figure at that point it's better to give someone else the chance. Congrats on your other schools--those are some awesome options!
  2. I got mine a minute ago! Man I wish I knew if everyone got the merit aid message or if it was just some of us? Waiting for April 13 is going to be torture. So excited though!
  3. Thank you! I totally understand what you mean. Madison was in my top 3 and notified super early. I feel really lucky because it lowered my stress so much this last month! I can't wait to finally commit somewhere.
  4. Hope so! I'm 90% set on UW-Madison, this is the last school that could change my mind!
  5. Wow congrats! That's so exciting!
  6. I haven't received either email about March 18! I hope nothing happened to my application
  7. I received a scholarship from NYU that would essentially cover room and board. No idea how common that is for the program, or what other funding they offer. I was surprised though, since my GPA isn't crazy competitive. My combined GRE is high, I guess, so maybe that did it? I think I wrote great essays, and my letters of rec were strong.
  8. A ton of people got waitlisted at Emerson. If you go to the results search section of this site and search "emerson speech pathology" you'll see them. Some people were guessing that anyone who interviewed got waitlisted, but I'm not positive. I took myself off the list as soon as I found out. Hope that helps!
  9. I was feeling really set on UW-Madison because cost of living is insanely low, I have a paid research position, I love the community, and the school is very highly ranked. However I just received a scholarship offer from NYU that would lower tuition to within $10,000 of Madison. It's still expensive but I'm back to feeling torn. I would much rather live in New York (all my best friends are there), I'm intrigued by their ASD research, and there are infinitely more clinical placement options (mostly because of location). Does anyone here have any advice about NYU? I don't know very much about the program or its reputation. Any advice about any of this would be appreciated! Madison is so prestigious and cheaper, so I feel like I would be crazy not to go there. And yet I think NYU is incredibly exciting. Thanks in advance for any and all opinions!
  10. Mayaella, first of all congrats! I would definitely ask professionals in the field their opinions on the two schools. I've gotten some great and informative responses doing this. Some have told me that it does matter to future employers, but I only have anecdotal evidence.
  11. I also meant no offense--this can be a tough topic here but I think everyone should feel comfortable to ask the questions. I think you're on the right track! Maybe also ask professionals in the field their opinion of how school reputation might affect future job chances? Feel free to PM me anytime.
  12. I think the accreditation part would worry me the most. Knowing that you will graduate from a prestigious accredited university would make the extra cost worth it to me at least. Congrats on both acceptances! Chicago is one of my absolute favorite cities, I would love to live there after school.
  13. Hi Jessica! I totally understand your anxiety but I wholeheartedly agree with the other posters. I did, basically, all the "wrong" things in undergrad. I majored in acting, worked in sports media, and babysat for over a year after graduation before I discovered speech pathology and started a post-bac. On paper I only had one semester of relevant experience (outside of babysitting kids with comm disorders) before I applied to schools. I really believe that my unique background and personal essays (in addition to LOR, GREs, and working my butt off that semester) got me into the second best program in the country. So keep doing what you love, explore as much as you can, and hopefully you'll see (as I have) that this field rocks because schools want people, and not just a collection of statistics. So far you are doing great!
  14. I'm also curious about U of O. I haven't seen anything on the results page so I assumed notifications would go out this week. Congrats on your acceptance!
