  1. I was in the same position, where I knew I wouldn't choose Emerson over my other schools. I figure at that point it's better to give someone else the chance. Congrats on your other schools--those are some awesome options!
  2. I got mine a minute ago! Man I wish I knew if everyone got the merit aid message or if it was just some of us? Waiting for April 13 is going to be torture. So excited though!
  3. Thank you! I totally understand what you mean. Madison was in my top 3 and notified super early. I feel really lucky because it lowered my stress so much this last month! I can't wait to finally commit somewhere.
  4. Hope so! I'm 90% set on UW-Madison, this is the last school that could change my mind!
  5. Wow congrats! That's so exciting!
  6. I haven't received either email about March 18! I hope nothing happened to my application
  7. I received a scholarship from NYU that would essentially cover room and board. No idea how common that is for the program, or what other funding they offer. I was surprised though, since my GPA isn't crazy competitive. My combined GRE is high, I guess, so maybe that did it? I think I wrote great essays, and my letters of rec were strong.
  8. A ton of people got waitlisted at Emerson. If you go to the results search section of this site and search "emerson speech pathology" you'll see them. Some people were guessing that anyone who interviewed got waitlisted, but I'm not positive. I took myself off the list as soon as I found out. Hope that helps!
  9. I was feeling really set on UW-Madison because cost of living is insanely low, I have a paid research position, I love the community, and the school is very highly ranked. However I just received a scholarship offer from NYU that would lower tuition to within $10,000 of Madison. It's still expensive but I'm back to feeling torn. I would much rather live in New York (all my best friends are there), I'm intrigued by their ASD research, and there are infinitely more clinical placement options (mostly because of location). Does anyone here have any advice about NYU? I don't know very much about the program or its reputation. Any advice about any of this would be appreciated! Madison is so prestigious and cheaper, so I feel like I would be crazy not to go there. And yet I think NYU is incredibly exciting. Thanks in advance for any and all opinions!
  10. Mayaella, first of all congrats! I would definitely ask professionals in the field their opinions on the two schools. I've gotten some great and informative responses doing this. Some have told me that it does matter to future employers, but I only have anecdotal evidence.
  11. I also meant no offense--this can be a tough topic here but I think everyone should feel comfortable to ask the questions. I think you're on the right track! Maybe also ask professionals in the field their opinion of how school reputation might affect future job chances? Feel free to PM me anytime.
  12. I think the accreditation part would worry me the most. Knowing that you will graduate from a prestigious accredited university would make the extra cost worth it to me at least. Congrats on both acceptances! Chicago is one of my absolute favorite cities, I would love to live there after school.
  13. Hi Jessica! I totally understand your anxiety but I wholeheartedly agree with the other posters. I did, basically, all the "wrong" things in undergrad. I majored in acting, worked in sports media, and babysat for over a year after graduation before I discovered speech pathology and started a post-bac. On paper I only had one semester of relevant experience (outside of babysitting kids with comm disorders) before I applied to schools. I really believe that my unique background and personal essays (in addition to LOR, GREs, and working my butt off that semester) got me into the second best program in the country. So keep doing what you love, explore as much as you can, and hopefully you'll see (as I have) that this field rocks because schools want people, and not just a collection of statistics. So far you are doing great!
  14. I'm also curious about U of O. I haven't seen anything on the results page so I assumed notifications would go out this week. Congrats on your acceptance!
  15. I'm finishing a post-bacc right now and have found it enormously helpful, especially as an out of field applicant. I absolutely recommend it, although of course it depends on the policies of the schools you want to attend. Almost all of mine required that the pre-reqs be completed before I started the grad program. I got to explore the field, boost my GPA, take a research position, work with professors etc. Message me if you have any specific questions! Oh an done thing: take the GRE if you can before you start the post-bacc. I took it for the first time this fall right when I was starting the post-bacc and it was absolutely exhausting.
  16. Yeah, the schools get your FAFSA info ASAP for sure, because NYU sent me a response about the FAFSA as soon as I submitted my financial aid info, which was almost a month before I was accepted.
  17. Same! I thought we would hear from some today for sure. I'm guessing I will check the results page roughly one billion times tomorrow.
  18. I'm in a similar situation and am struggling to figure out the weight of a "big name" grad program. People on this forum tend to say it doesn't matter at all, but professors and clinicians that I've spoken to have said that coming from a top school (with the research and clinical placements they can provide) can affect how attractive you are as a candidate, potential salary, etc. I'm torn because I'm really interested in NYU but I feel like Madison would be better career-wise. Note: I hope this doesn't seem obnoxious or like I'm dismissing the posters who have given different opinions! Do what feels right for you, and congrats!
  19. My undergrad GPA was a 3.57 and my post-bacc GPA is 3.75.
  20. Sure hope so! I would love to go there and be in the Chicago area but all of my other schools are cheaper--even UW-Madison is less than half the price. It's hard to justify paying so much for basically the same education.
  21. Northwestern tuition is 120,000 for the two years, if I remember right. I applied but am probably not going to attend without scholarship money.
  22. Does anyone here know anything about Chapman's program? I can't get much from their website and I don't know anyone who goes there.
  23. Thanks for starting this! I was also accepted to UW-Madison which was crazy exciting, and then today I was accepted to NYU. I don't know much about that program so if anyone knows anything about it please share. I interviewed at Emerson last weekend and I'm still waiting to hear from them and eight other schools. If anyone has UW-Madison questions I'm doing my post-bacc here and am happy to share what I know! Congrats everybody!
  24. I just got accepted to NYU but know relatively little about the program. I did research online but haven't had the chance to visit. If anyone here can tell me their impressions about the academics, research, clinical work, overall vibe, financial aid etc. I will be very grateful! Thanks!
