  1. Just heard from NYU, I'm so excited! I'm from out of state, can anyone familiar with the program/who has done a tour tell me your impressions?
  2. I went through the U.S. News rankings and chose schools based on reputation, geography, and tuition, in that order. I picked 11 schools (in retrospect that was too many, but that's only easy to say in hindsight) and divided them pretty evenly into reach, fit, and safety categories. Luckily I'm in a post-bacc program and was able to talk to professors, advisors, and the grad students in my research lab. Feel free to message me with any questions about the process! I'm also from California but I applied to schools all over the country.
  3. My letter from UW-Madison came to my current address, which seems to make the most sense. That's the only physical mail I've gotten so far. Hope that helps!
  4. I'm out of state but they didn't ask me my preference, just told me what time to be on my Skype account. Hope that helps!
  5. Mine is happening March 3. Just wondering, does anyone know what funding is like at Chapman? Do they ever give merit scholarships or anything like that?
  6. Received an email this morning! Looks like they're doing interviews over Skype.
  7. Hi Koukla! Just in case you didn't know, if you go up to "results search" and type in "speech pathology" on that page you can see where people submit their responses from schools. You can also search for those specific schools you're interested in to see if responses are out yet. It's an awesome (and very addicting) way to get updates.
  8. I didn't get an email, just happened to check the portal.
  9. Finally got my time today, there's still hope people! Excited to head to Boston next week!
  10. I don't think it's about location because last year people were getting notified regardless of geography. For your own sanity I really would try not to over think it. If you look back though this topic you'll see that people were notified over six days. I'm definitely anxious too but that perspective is a lifesaver!
  11. Last year they notified people about interviews over the course of a week, and last week when I called they said we'd hear by late next week. So we've still got time! (I'm still panicking and checking my portal every five seconds, of course!)
  12. Nothing for me yet...hopefully it's like last year where they pop up gradually. Congrats! Thanks for the heads up!
  13. I spoke to an admissions person on the phone and she said that they would let us know mid-to-late next week. Cutting it pretty close for those of us out of state...
  14. Hey everybody! SO appreciate the responses. Every single one made my anxiety go down a bit. Dial1010usa, my undergrad GPA (in an unrelated field) is a bit low at 3.6, but I should have all A's (give or take an AB) in my post-bac program this semester. I'm currently working in one of my professor's labs, and I have babysitting experience working with kids with speech disorders. I think I'll wait to see what my AW score is and go from there. Any other advice is welcome!
  15. Thanks so much for your input and honesty! Definitely thinking about taking it again.
  16. Thanks! Yeah I thought about posting in the general thread but I was hoping to get responses specifically from SLP people. 149 is sadly way lower--I think it's the 37th percentile. I was aiming for 50th but (obviously) fell very short!
  17. Please tell me if there's a better place to ask for advice about GRE scores and I'll move this to that thread! I don't want to be obnoxious asking such a specific question if there's a thread devoted to GRE scores. So, I've taken the GRE twice now. The first time I got a 149 on quant and a 167 on verbal. I studied quant like crazy and took the test again today, only to improve my verbal to a 168 while my quant stayed at 149. Is this low quant score going to disqualify me from applying to top tier schools? Some background: I'm 24, I majored in another subject with an undergraduate GPA of 3.6. I'm currently completing prerequisites at UW-Madison's Capstone program and I should be getting all A's and AB's this semester. I work in one of my professor's research labs on campus and have experience babysitting children with speech disorders. I have no other relevant experience, though. So, should I take the test again or is my overall application competitive enough? Again, sorry if this is too specific and THANK YOU for all the help--I'm so stressed!
  18. I've decided to commit to UW Madison! I was wait listed at Chapman (letters were sent yesterday) and CSULB and CSULA won't notify me in time for Madison's May 1 deadline. I badly wanted to return home to California but I'm really excited about going to Madison. If anyone knows anything about the post-bacc program there, or Madison in general, please message me! Best of luck to everyone, and keep posting! It's great to hear about your experiences.
  19. I should also clarify that my undergrad degree is a BFA in Acting so I have considerable catching up to do on the math/science front. I was nervous to do that online, for sure! Math has never been my strength.
  20. I gave the online programs some serious thought but in the end I really wanted to have the classroom experience. It's just better for the way I personally learn. But I've heard great things about Utah State's online program.
  21. Okay, I have a (disappointing) update for Long Beach applicants. Since I'm in town for another interview I decided to stop by CSULB's information session this evening. The grad student who led the session told me they're running behind schedule on reviewing applications and we probably won't hear about post-bacc decisions until the end of April. Such a bummer! I was really hoping we'd know by the end of the week. Anyway I thought you guys might want to know! All that said, the grad student was great and the session was very helpful. Now back to the waiting game...
  22. It's so nerve-wracking to wait for decisions! I've given up on hearing from CSULA before May, it seems like they notify really late. I do remember reading on some old threads that people heard from CSULB as early as this week last year. I hope that's true. Fingers crossed for all of us! I'll post if I hear anything. And again if anyone has info about the post-bacc programs at Chapman, CSULB, or Wisconsin-Madison I would really appreciate it!
  23. Thanks so much for starting this thread! I just found this site and have been referring back to last year's discussions, but it's nice to hear about what people are doing right now. I applied to the post-bacc programs at CSULA, CSULB, Chapman, and Wisconsin-Madison. So far I was accepted to Madison, have an interview this week at Chapman, and haven't heard from either state school. I have to let Madison know my decision by May 1, so I'm trying to weigh all potential options even though I haven't yet heard from the other schools. If anyone knows anything about the pros/cons of those four programs I'd love to hear it! I've done some research myself but I'm fairly new to SLP so I'm not so aware of each school's reputations in the field. Any perspective would be welcome! Thanks.
