I'm not sure if it is too early to start to be concerned... but I haven't heard back from many of the programs I've applied to yet and I'm worried that I'll have to take another year off. To apply to some online programs just in case?

Honestly I would think that no news is good news. Most programs seem to send out rejections at the same time as acceptances.

    Hi everyone!

Congratulations on receiving interviews from Georgia State! I wanted to ask if any of you received any confirmation messages after selecting a time. I submitted my time around February 19th but have yet to receive any confirmation about it. Also, does anyone know if we are having 1-1 interviews or if we will be placed in groups? I am getting kinda nervous thinking about it ?

I didn't receive a confirmation either and it was making me really nervous! I called Teresa (the lady who sent the interview invite) and she was able to confirm that I was on the schedule. So if you are worried about it you can definitely call to ask! I didn't ask about the 1-1 vs. group interview and have been wishing I did - let us know if you find out! It seems like they are signing up multiple people for each time slot so that kind of points towards a group interview...

  3. I live in-state but 5 hours away from Atlanta...I was not offered an option to do a video interview because I think they assume that I live close by. It feels a bit silly driving 5 hours for a 15 minute interview, but I'm afraid to request a video interview because this is my top choice school and I really don't want to give the impression that they aren't a priority.

I would trust them to be fair about weighing the in-person and video interviews equally.

I haven't heard anything either! I got an email from them back in December saying that I had started a CSDCAS application that was not yet completed. Once I completed it in January, I never received a confirmation. But I'm sure we are fine! Good luck!

Okay thanks, that's actually reassuring! I guess they will just send stuff out when decisions are made.

    GPA: 3.97

    GRE: 163V 152Q 4.0W

    University of Georgia

    Georgia State University

    Georgia Southern University

    Valdosta State University

I submitted my first application in September, so I'm feeling very antsy lol. Good luck everyone!

Have you heard anything from Georgia Southern since the deadline? Like an email confirming that they received your application? I have not gotten anything at all from them and it is making me nervous that something weird happened and they didn't get my application! I definitely submitted it before the 15th, and all of the other schools have sent something confirming that my application is under review.

  6. I took a course called Conceptual Chemistry, it was basically like high school chemistry all over again. Very easy A. I used it toward my ASHA prerequisites on applications and it doesn't seem to be a problem. Haven't heard back from any applications yet but you should be good!

  7. Hey y'all, I am applying for Fall 2020 as well. I made an account on here almost 4 years ago asking for advice about how to get into this field. I was about to graduate college with a completely unrelated degree and the advice I got here helped me figure out a plan to pursue a career as an SLP. After doing a post-bacc online while working full time I'm finally ready to put the plan into action!!! It has been a long road but I see the light at the end of the tunnel!

I applied to UGA, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, West Georgia, UTHSC, Florida Atlantic University, University of Central Florida, Tennessee State, and U. of South Carolina. My biggest fear is getting rejected from every single school after all these years and going into debt to take prerequisites. Fingers crossed!

If anyone is curious which schools will overlook a below-average GPA for good GRE scores, I'll let you know where I get accepted lol

    GPA: 3.45

    GRE: 169V 155Q 5.5 AW

    Good luck everyone!

  8. Hi everyone, I am interested in SLP as a career and have a bachelor's in another field.

Before I sign up to take pre-reqs, I wanted to see if I could do some observation to make 100% sure that I know what it's like. The problem is, I currently work 9-5 Monday through Friday, which is when most clinics(and schools) are open.

Does anyone have any tips for finding observation opportunities on weekends or in the evenings? Surely there are SLPs who work off hours or do private tutoring somewhere out there. I would love to hear from anyone else who has dealt with this problem before.

  9. Hi gradcafe,

I'm graduating this semester with a degree in foreign languages, and I'm really interested in doing the post-bacc courses online and applying for slp programs.

It seems like a lot of people who are "out of field" applicants have studied things like psychology, biology, public health, etc.

How common is an out of field applicant with a more humanities oriented degree?

I have a lot of experience with education and language acquisition (worked as a writing tutor, have a TESOL certificate, worked for a school in Germany). Ive also taken a few linguistics classes(but not in English) Would that experience be valuable as an slp?  How would my professors be evaluated as references?
