You really need to breathe. Everyone's trying to give you relevant information, and from what I can tell (after thoroughly reading all of your posts on this forum and the 2015-16 forum), you should listen to what they're saying. The only reason their comments sound "haughty" is because you lashed out immediately when they tried to help you avoid months of (probably fruitless) waiting. Also, you're fabricating some of the comments that you're complaining about.
It sounds like you should have applied to Fulbright for the 2014-15 cycle if you're arriving in October. You could still apply for the coming year if you're planning on going to another country after this year of research.

Professional Development, that is exactly what Fulbright is, noted previously in detail by me if you looked at the other post.
Don't try to dispute that, especially if you just agreed with Isaac.
You haughty young people need to step back take a good hard look at yourselves and realize that you have some growing up to do and that maturity does not come from being haughty toward others or from being a negative nancy.
You can't disagree with me and agree with Isaac (sorry Isaac) all at the same time unless you plan on contradicting yourselves.
Maybe consider a "plan B" on your route through adulthood as maturity comes with age not grades. DISCOURAGING PEOPLE IS INAPPROPRIATE ESPECIALLY WHEN NOT KNOWING SOMEONE PERSONALLY AND ITS INAPPROPRIATE TO TELL A STRANGER TO GO FIND SOMETHING ELSE AND VERY INAPPROPRIATE TO TALK DOWN TO PEOPLE IN SUCH A HAUGHTY MANNER.
SPEAK OF YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES NOT WHAT YOU THINK OTHER PEOPLE'S EXPERIENCES SHOULD BE.
RESPECT!!! TRY IT SOMETIME
COMMENTS LIKE, "IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU'LL NEVER MAKE IT SO JUST STOP TRYING ALREADY or telling people the fulbright rules when no one asked.
No one deserves to be spoken to in a haughty manner.
"AS I SAID IN THE OTHER THREAD ...... " "DONT APPLY" GET A PLAN B" "Be more realistic (wth, you cant say that to someone you dont know)"
When you get older, you will be wiser and learn not to speak in such a haughty manner. Your grades wont get you that sweet heart.

Hi Tantavi, for what it's worth, I say go for the Fulbright.
To me, it seems like you're debating between what you want to do and what you think-you're-supposed-to-do. In my very limited wisdom, the think-you're-supposed-to-do path is safe. It feels Responsible and Adult. The supposed-to-path makes a lot of sense in a lot of situations, but not this one.
In this situation you win on all fronts if you take the Fulbright.
You're worried about your job prospects - Take the Fulbright. For every job you apply to, there will be stacks on stacks of resumes from people who, "skill-wise", are just like you. If you rock, which I bet you do, and you stand out, which a Fulbright will help with, you get the interview. If you forsook the Fulbright, one year from now you will stand out as much as the thousands of other math/comp.sci people a year into an entry-level job. Point: Fulbright.
You're worried about money - Take the Fulbright. You're playing the long game. The difference between coming out of college broke now, or a year from now is negligible. Spend a year kicking ass and taking names, developing soft skills and honing an interesting interview-narrative. It will pay off. Credentialism is also important (unfortunate or not). This is a big, fat, stamp of approval hiring managers will use when looking at your applications. Point: Fulbright
You're worried the Fulbright won't give you "skills" - Program in Bulgaria! Choose a project, knock it out, and add it to your CV. Realize that you will develop communication skills, soft skills, and self-reliance abroad. Recognize that those skills have worth. As an aside, have a look at Sarah Kendzior's tweets about the our modern idea of a "skills gap" here and here. She can be bombastic, but what she writes there is at the heart of my fears of incompetence, it might ring true for you as well.
TL;DR: Your Fulbright is a one-year investment in your future - you are paid, housed, and your loans are deferred. It doesn't get more low-risk than that! In the worst case scenario, assuming you don't hate the experience, it will leave you in the same position you are in now (few "skills [...] and prospects"), but with a wonderful year abroad that you will always have memories of. In reality it will provide you with tangible benefits, detailed above.
Best,
Isaac

Thanks everyone. This forum has been wonderful. I wasn't joking about getting towed. When i got the NS, i parked in a random parking lot and ran crying to my adviser's office. We i walked back, my car was gone. $390 bucks to get it back. You know what though, it meant nothing. I am starting to realize that i just need to reapply, have better options, and use this as a maturing experience. It hurts, but, as you all have said, we are passionate people. I can get back up. For all the NS, life goes on.
Here's to 2015-2016

Thanks for confirming this - I have repeatedly urged people to be careful what they say on here. I think that some feel the internet is "safe" and "anonymous" - this is far from reality. If you would not say it in front of a Fulbright committee or your parents - don't say it on here.

My roommate told me earlier today, "you seem to be handling the wait well." HAHAHA! She is lucky that I have this forum or I would have lost it months ago. How did people endure the wait before the internet?!

Mozartgirl, you are so incredibly correct to bring this up. We are very blessed indeed to not have to worry about the uncertainty and fear that the Ukrainian people are currently waking up every day too. I too believe that standing with the Ukrainian people is important and Fulbright is the perfect program for such relations to continue. Considering my research is to study the EU/Ukraine relations, I find that this time in Ukraine is perfect for me to conduct my research to learn more about how the world (EU) interacts with Ukraine.
GnosisExchange, I agree with you. I have many friends and family in Ukraine who have been very negatively impacted by everything that is going on. It pains me to have family and friends who are living in such unstable times, all the while I am comfortably living in America waiting to graduate from undergrad.
I do not think you are being a debbie downer, you are being a realist. If the program is cancelled, idealistically, I would love for the winning Ukraine applicants to be relocated to another country (if that is at all possible). But I think you are correct in one aspect for sure. How good would the research be if it is meant to be done in Ukraine and not another country. Luckily my research topic is a bit flexible when it comes to where I would want to do my research. But I feel like most people are specifically geared to research in Ukraine to learn about Ukraine.

Mozartgirl53, thank you so much for this comment. I think because we are all so excited for Fulbright, we lose perspective every once in a while. It sucks to be waiting back from Fulbright if you applied to Ukraine, but the uncertainty of being a citizen there has to be a million times worse.

GnosisExchange, thank you for your kind words! My back up plan is to go to graduate school in Bremen, Germany to receive a Masters in International Relations: global governance and social theory. The university, Jacobs, has been very kind to me in understanding my state of limbo in regards to Fulbright and they have pledged to work with me in any capacity that they can.
olioliwoo, I am not sure if that is allowed. If that is at all possible, I would love to go to Poland and still be close to Ukraine to do my research. I wouldn't mind going to Brussels to study/work/research with EU MPs to do my research (that would be a home run!!)
Thank you very much sirskipsalot! I too am hoping that if Ukraine closes its program, then I would be able to research in another country/location. I am dying to know if I even won the grant. But you are correct, I will still put the grant information on my CV/resume if I win or become an alternate even if the program closes.
during my Junior year of undergrad (last year), I was an alternate for the Boren Award and if fulbright does not come through, I may end up applying for that award all over again and use it to do my research.

I know a lot of South America is still waiting -- I'm still waiting on Venezuela!
And Shogun1, I have similar concerns. With all of the violence in Caracas, I'm really nervous as to what's going to happen with my program as well! As far as I know, they haven't pulled out the current Fulbrighters already there, so that's a good sign in my book.

Is today the day, rest of Eurasian countries? I've stocked up on non-romantic comedies, Blue Moon, Cherry Garcia, and a few shoulders to cry on or embrace me. Plus, my boss is in NYC today so....more time to actively freak out.

Hi miri - I think probably everyone here knows that feeling of paralysis. For me, it started in March after spring break when people first started hearing back. The only way I could get past it was to come up with a Plan B, so I could tell myself, "If I don't get the Fulbright, then I will do X instead." Otherwise, it is just looking into an abyss . . .
