  1. Anyone off the waitlist yet?!
  2. Hey guys, I was thinking of retaking a course I got a B in that is really doing damage to my transcript. However, I was told that if I retake it it takes a full year for it to replace my old grade on my transcript, so ORPAS winds up taking BOTH your grades. Just want to confirm this
  3. Would anyone who got into U of T like to share their stats???
  4. Hello everyone, Congrats to everyone who got in. I am planning on applying 2016 cycle.. was just wondering if U of T looks at SubGPA or cumulative GPA? Also, I was wondering if people wanted to post some stats? Don't want to freak anyone out but just to know if I am competitive enough? Thanks!
  5. Congrats to all of those who got in so far! I was wondering if each program deals with ORPAS differently.. I assumed that in our subGPA calculation for SLP, the summer courses are individual to our other courses. BUT, in the OT Faqs for Uof T, it mentioned this: Will my summer courses be counted separately or as part of my fall/winter average? If you took eight courses or more in the preceding fall/winter terms, summer courses are counted as their own average. If you took seven courses or fewer in the preceding fall/winter terms, your summer courses are combined with your preceding fall/winter courses for one total average. For example, if you took seven courses in your second year, and then one course the following summer, the seven courses in second year and the one course in the summer would be added together for one weighted average.
  6. Perfect! This is what I assumed, thanks!
  7. Hey guys, can I just confirm that for ORPAS, Summer semester courses are considered individually separate from fall and winter? It will make me or break me at this point haha
  8. Sorry do you mind PMing them to me too? Congratulations!!!
  9. Exactly! It's highly competitive and it sucks that some people who would make great SLP's don't get in. I unfortunately, financially can only apply once, and can only apply to one school in my area. That's why backups are needed for me. The thing with OT is I think it is majority working with elderly patients, there is not as much for pediatrics from what I hear. Has anyone heard differently?
  10. Hello everyone! I've been getting nervous about the application process, I was wondering about a backup, does anyone know what the job prospects are like for OT's?
  11. Ya I agree with you, I dont think the honours is crucial.. I spoke to mabel from U of T and she said that its more just GPA. And yes I've heard research is always a good thing!
  12. I can't see it being a determining factor. I'm sure they'd look at your statement of intent and volunteer experience and use that if subGPA was the same. I.e. I can see them calculating the cGPA automatically, but not really paying attention to it
  13. Just wanted to wish everyone applying this year good luck!! Stay positive, and I know the wait will feel like forever, but keep yourselves busy, and no matter what happens you guys are ALL worthy of being SLP's
  14. Well i certainly wouldnt want to spend more money retaking courses i got b +. But i dont get it I see comments of people who will say their sgpa is in the 3.8 range and yet they got a c+ on a pre requisite? Maybe its because my school doesnt have A-.. So i can never enter 3.9 even when i do get 85%+.
  15. Is any one getting frusterated with sGPA calculations? I am almost considering redoing 2 courses where I got a b+ because it's bringing me down that much!
  16. Ok thats a relief!!! Thanks
  17. Hey guys, Is anyone applying with just a non-honours degree? I am only doing a B.A. in hopes to save my gpa.. I have spoken to U of T, and they dont require a honours, but is it an advantage in any way? Thanks
  18. Hello everyone, I was wondering if any one has any backups to SLP? It is very competitive
  19. This is what I think mind you, or atleast how I've been keeping track of my gpa! Good luck with your applications!!
  20. I think A's are 3.8's and A+'s 4.0's when calculating your subgpa.
  21. I would like to know this as well!
  22. Hey guys, I was wondering if you think they separate applicants in terms of 3.7, 3.8, 3.6.. or if someone has a 3.75 is there chance better than someone who has a 3.7. They are both considered in the same range (well in terms of letter grade I guess) Good luck with everyone and their applications!!
  23. I think it depends on what school you are applying to.. I know for U of T grades are more important, but for Western I hear they look more at the volunteer experience. I think the big thing is trying to spread it out..different populations rather than the total amount of hours.
  24. I have heard this as well, which is why I find it bizarre that SLP is as competitive as it is, it seems like a great job, something I'd love to do, and I'm sure lots of people will, but with the job market, and the fact that lots of places dont actually provide a salary, it's all just dependent on how many clients you have.. makes it seem kind of unstable.
  25. Perhaps! but from all I've heard and the SLP's I've spoken to who went or got rejected from U of T, 3.7 is the minimum, atleast to get accepted right away, not waitlisted. It could be just the ones I've spoken to though.
