Yeah same here.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing! And nothing from yale either, am I right?

UPenn is a great school! Good luck!

Yai! Great!

So, I got my first interview! At Stony Brook! Actually, I just finished it I got an email from my POI yesterday night asking for an interview, to which I replied as fast as I could ( SB is in my top 3), so we scheduled a Skype call for today. I was so so so nervous. I loved it. My POI was great: super nice and interesting. We talked a lot about my background and his research projects and the more he talked the more I falled in love with the department (really computational oriented, but with a focus on theoretical stuff and Minimalism which is rare in CL programs). So I think it went very well, let's hope for the best. In case there is somebody else here interested in SB feel free to PM me. He told me that they are planning an open house in march, so they hope to finish up with interviews in the next couple of weeks.

Last year's acceptance timeline for PhD programs
Garyon replied to Omnium's topic in Linguistics Forum
Just to add some info (I'm putting in the interval between the first notification reported and the latest - waitlisted excluded): Stony Brook -- Mid Feb/Ealy March Delaware -- Early Feb (Interviews)-- Late Feb/Early March (acc/rej) Umass @ Amherst -- Late Feb/Early March So, I guess we'll just have to wait a while longer -
Cool! Where do you live, if I may ask?
-
I don't know about that, I've heard different opinions in the linguistics community! Also, Chiki thanks for the encouragement! We'll see! Keep us posted on how your interviews go! Let's hope for the best (for all of us )
-
is this an admission offer? Or are they inviting you for an interview? Both ways, great!!!!!!!! You rock!
-
That's great!

Ahaha, this was a busy week at work, thus my refrain from posting This is a good advice though, maybe It would bring me luck! I'll think about it Yay and Yay again! So happy for you, I know you were freaking out (I still am)! Good luck! wow, I didn't know this was a practice. Do your POIs have very different research interests? However, this probably means they are both interested in you, so Yay^3!

First of all, Tairy, congrats! I am SOOO envious! Can I ask you what are you interested in (meaning: syntax, sem, neuroL, SocioL, etc)? So, Chiki I feel a lot like you. I haven't heard anything from Maryland, NYU, or Yale. Plus, no one checked me out on the web either. I found so difficult to focus on my work/friends/LIFE this weeks. Every little mistake I did at work these days felt like a big failure (like " See? You can't do it! And you want to get into Yale?!"). But we have to try and learn how to cope. I truly believe that we are not defined by the success of this application season, and we should not let our anxiety define us, or speak for us (I don't really know if this is your case, but I'm saying this because it is mine - I tend to feel defined by the succes of the things I plan). So, while I am freaking out and feeling kind of discomforted, let me second isilya reasonable advice. After all, for many of the programs we applied to this was the first week after the deadline (I am still wondering about CUNY and UPenn, but nonetheless ). Let's try to breathe and wait until Friday of next week to REALLY freak out. I know it is more easily said than done.

Yeah! Good for you! I'm officially freaking out (and it is only January 15!!!) It is!

First of all, let me say that THIS discussion is far more interesting than our previous (yeah, shame on me ) complaining about missing emails. I don't know if we are going off-topic (we probably are) but so be it. Now, Chiki, I see your point. On the theoretical side though, I feel that following a theory that one finds convincing (for whatever - "evidence supported"-reason) while keeping an open mind will eventually lead to interesting developments (meaning: even just new Questions!!), even if the original theory is seriously flawed. Bolded part: You are right, we can't. Also, in my opinion, we know almost nothing about our cognitive processes. However, I don't believe that the interesting questions are/should be so specific, for the moment. To be clearer - or more confusing- the questions may be, but we should not expect specific answers. I think that experiments with a sound theoretical basis can provide interesting information not about a specific syntactic rule, but for example about the kind of rules we should be looking at. This is why I found Moro's work on possible vs. impossible grammars very convincing, or also Embick's work on the authonomy of syntax. I really believe that every little piece of information we get from these kinds of approaches can guide our theoretical inquiries toward better theories (again, probably just by posing new questions! But I love questions, and I get that you do too ). I don't know if I'm making any sense... Side note: have you ever read Pallier's work on constituents' encoding? Edit: Sorry, while I was writing I didn't notice Fuzzy's (much more interesting and better written than mine) aswer and Chiki's answer back! i'm late as usual!

I don't know. I think there is some work in this direction. And, if this application season goes as planned, I hope I'll be there to be part of it.
-
I am! Well, hopefully, I will be! I attended a conference where she gave a speach together with Andrea Moro ( have you read anything by him? It was his work that first got me into linguistics). By the way, I am mainly interested in theoretical syntax right now. But I believe Neurolinguistics to be amazingly interesting and that They (meaning Theoretical L. and NeuroL.) are/could be/should be of great use to one another.

Oh, I'm sorry... I just felt the need to share and didn't really think about it. I'm really sorry. I had the same reaction. I'm dealing with it with chocolate abuse and tv series (I've started Battlestar Galactica!). I wish I could focus on my work but I keep getting distracted (as by every email I get). I also have some linguistics work I wanted to check out ( for example some papers by Angela Friederici - super interesting stuff!) but I can't look at any linguistics stuff without thinking about the applications. Hopefully I'll learn how to cope with this state-of-mind.

So, I saw in the result section that someone was invited for an interview at NYU. Good luck to him/her!!! Side note: clearly, this news is feeding my anxiety! I don't know if I can make it till March/april.
-
Your welcome! Your anxiety is my anxiety Umm wouldn't something like a "First In First Out / Last In First Out" order be more likely? They assigned us a numerical ID after all... Probably they liked our SOP so much they didn't even need to check us up on external sources
-
If it can make you feel any better, I applied both to CUNY and Upenn, and no one looked at my profile either. Thinking about CUNY and Upenn, their deadline was Dec 15th, wasn't it?! What are they doing?!? (yeah, freaking out mode on)
-
Chiki, you are even more anxious than me! I feel relieved to be in such good company in my madness
-
Good Luck!!

nothing here!

Ahh ok! You are just reporting last year's earliest notification date! Umm yeah that's interesting. I'll do it and sum my research here.
