Oooh that is really good to know! Thanks for the info! It is one of my top choices and I will be visiting the campus in May! :) That's surprising to hear actually. Not to be too nosy, but do you know a general range of how many people get wait listed?  Every UW school is different. I know Milwaukee's waitlist is pretty big, but not much about the other programs. I go to Whitewater currently and have not heard a word back yet, so I just cannot wait until April 15!

I'm so excited to hear you will be visiting in May! I'm not sure how many are on the waitlist this year, I would think the range would be between 30-50 students. I think about 10 have accepted their offers at this point (those who knew right away) and we shoot for a class of 36. I don't want to speak too soon but you may have a good shot. Are you able to contact the school to find out where you are on the waitlist? Milwaukee's waitlist is typically upwards of 80! If you  have any other questions, feel free to PM me :) Good luck, your waitlists are sure to turn into at least on acceptance!!!

  2. I disagree with the statement that Midwest schools are easier to get into. The midwest is the birthplace of SLP, you will find it much more competitive than a lot of southern schools. This is not meant to say that there is anything better/worse about the midwest or the south but I wanted you you to be informed that it is not less competitive in the midwest.

  3. I did just find this on ASHA though:

What if I did not do a master's thesis?

Few master's student in CSD complete a thesis, primarily because clinical training programs are so time-consuming. Although the completion of a thesis provides an excellent opportunity for the master's student to learn first hand whether research is exciting, motivating, and interesting to him or her, there are other ways to accomplish this. Many universities have summer research programs for undergraduate students. As an undergraduate or graduate student, you may be able to assist a faculty member with research.

Most doctoral programs have a well-delineated set of research experiences that prepare the doctoral student for the dissertation phase of their program. Thus, there is little assumption that students enter a doctoral program with research proficiency. If you have the opportunity to complete a thesis in your clinical master's or AuD program, it will be good preparation. But if you completed your master's degree or AuD without a thesis, you should not allow the lack of a thesis to deter you from considering a PhD program.

  4. Does anyone know how the tuition works for the neighboring states? The ISU site says that neighboring states qualify for in state tuition...but I could not find how much a graduate credit was. They only had semester calculations.

This school is my most expensive option but I know it is a good program...I am waiting for my letter in hopes I was awarded an assistantship. Anyone have experience with the cost of this program, as an out of state applicant?

  5. I would not worry too much about Madison. There are some hiring freezes/budget freezes but any hiring that started prior to this (idiotic) situation are still allowed to move forward. That being said, it is a scary time for higher education in WI....

Madison is #2 in the country for SLP, I doubt they are having any funding issues.
