  1. No news on my end either. I am expecting to be denied (it was my 'reach' scool) for what its worth (not much).
  2. Again, thanks for the offer to help out. Got accepted and am very excited. Do you know when we can expect to hear about FAFSA info from GW? I am not getting any money from the school, so this will be a necessity. Thanks again.
  3. got accepted to elliot school at gw today. very excited, but with no money. question for the flas person above: were you admitted to the flas program w/o having declared your attention to attend kansas? i applied for the russian at syracuse, but dont know if not having told them about my intentions yet hurts chances...thanks!
  4. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, most here seem to be aiming for PhD degrees. I am applying for a MA in IR. I have heard from a few schools (positively) already that I am considering going to, but have a couple reach schools as well. Anyone here have an idea about my chances for acceptance to Elliot School and when they typically hand out decisions? (I won't even bother you with my other reach, because my arms aren't nearly long enough). I majored in International Studies (geographical focus E Europe/Russia; thematic focus politics) and minored in Russian at UNC-CH. My GPA is a very unspectacular 3.0. Did well enough on the GRE i guess - 650Q/710V/4.5W. I have spent the past two years working in Ukraine as a Peace Corps volunteer. I speak Russian at an advanced level. I have heard from a couple of good programs already, so feel free to be brutally honest with me if you feel I have no shot, just looking for input. Applying for schools from abroad (and very rural abroad at that) has limited my access to information, so anything you all have is great. Thanks
  5. I can speak towards the Peace Corps thing - I am a current volunteer. I applied following undergrad. I did not apply for any MA programs - I majored in International Studies and wanted some real world experience before trying for a Masters (plus I was ready for a break from school for a bit). I certainly think PC service looks good - I went to a well regarded undergrad and did not really exert myself, which shows. I took the GRE in October, did well enough, and am now applying for my MA. I feel that at least one program that has already accepted me would probably not have done so with out the 2+ years of experience I can put down to my service.
  6. Got into Syracuse as well, and am considering it. I looked online and looks like it is a very affordable place to live. I assume heating costs are pretty high come winter, but most places like that will let you spread out heating costs through out the year.
  7. I did undergrad at UNC (2000-04). Having a car isnt a must, but very helpful for things like grocery shopping. Buses run throughout the city, and are free which is great. UNC is a very big school located in a not very big town, so housing is at a premium. It is expensive to live off campus. It would be hard to find a place not 'infested' with undergrads as well. Carrboro would probably be the best option. I had some good friends who lived there for a while, and it was a great place. Buses ran nearby, and it was walkable to Franklin St, campus. Senior year I lived in a small apartment near campus on Hillsborough St. It was in a nice spot, walkable to campus, also right on a bus line. Anyways, not sure what else to say, but if you have questions, let me know.
  8. Dunno what the general rule is with funding. One school accepted me, then a few weeks later notified me I was eligible for a merit based scholarship. With this came an earlier date for notifying them of my decision.
  9. Going for MA in International Relations. me: undergrad - UNC GPA 3.0 GRE 710V/650Q/4.0W them: accepted - Monterey Institute (w/ 3K a semester schol.), Syracuse waiting - Johns Hopkins, George Washington, Denver good luck to all
