  1. I admit im tired of rejection letters starting with 'Dear Omar, we regret to inform you of being rejected to our program ' And they usually end their letters with the competitiveness excuse with no details of how to make my application better How can I let the depression stop of taking over me..
  2. Thank you, im grateful for the useful stated information. While i do think such schools nomatter how flexible their requirements may be, however they still need an effort to put into in order to be competitive and be admitted. What mostly I admire in some schools is their urge for int'l students to create a more enriching spectacular student sphere.
  3. This response is worthless and adds 0 information for me and for any guest/member. As for the GRE, Not just McMaster solely doesnt require GRE, but UK Top Uni's like Oxford, Cambridge & LSE doesnt require it, and they are equal in terms of selectivity & prestige to Harvard, Stanford & MIT. Does that make "Drake University (US school)" that requires a GRE better than Oxford Uni that does not? & who you're to judge that I suffer from lack of ethics? Nothing but an anonymous, which totally makes 0 weight & credibility to your replies. Save your time by doing better useful stuff.
  4. First car was a GMC envoy Second is a corvette c6 2010 Current car is a modified Porsche Turbo 2012 with carbon fiber rear and fronts.
  5. Nice mass crowd phenomenon going on. Id recommend you to read Gustav Lebon's masterpiece "Psychology of the crowd" youll definitely find yourself underlying within the context of his analysis.
  6. None forced you to believe sir. And what about the GRE "hand"kissing here? Is this some sort of an authoritarian forum where hemogenous ideas are likely to be perfect while criticizing ETS is a major issue?
  7. What i did is simply stating a brief information regarding my overall abilities & achievements that you actually were a denial on. And when i respond you find that weird? And what attitude are you talking about? Is it because of a hypothetical situation that I imaginized in a topic that I wanted to have a philosophical argument regarding morals of ethics ?
  8. Thank you for such an informative reply while the term selectivity is a bit spooky for us as int'l students, however the way you emphasized on it in the case of McMaster is very relaxing. I think I will consider applying soon. And yes you're right, as I remember McMaster has a terminal major of International Relations, and a also there is poli sci. If I may ask, fifteen admissions out of how many? The acreddited Canadian universities from my department to obtain an acceptance are: 1- McGill uni 2- uni of Alberta 3- McMaster uni 4- Uni of British Columbia Ive reviewed all of the above listed requirements, McMaster seemed less strict. Hope this helps, and any additional thoughts would be appreciated.
  9. Who you think you are to determine am i qualified enough or not? You're at the utmost expectations are a grad student who got several rejections before gotten admitted. Have you seen my reseach papers? Did you know that I am with a continuous contact with American University, Harvard Kennedy School (Government Dept), Duke University, Georgetown University, Texas at Austin University faculty members are cooperating in several academic papers and they actually have shown interests for my papers to reference in their academic subfields? I am in terms of an undergrad & Grad GPA (yes am a grad student), english proficiency tests, experiences, extracurricular activities, achievements (two books on comparative politics, published article) and honors. I am qualified to apply to about 85% of the US grad programs in my major, the one and only defect which is in my profile is my low GRE scores WHICH can be fixed by studying which I NEVER did when I took my once and only GRE, hence it is very logical to occur. I have proven that I am eligible in english proficiency tests in both in the IELTS and TOEFL. I have scored a 7.5/9 in the IELTS listening & speaking portions which is equivalent to 27/30 on TOEFL. I have scored a 23/30 writing on TOEFL before 3 years without even practicing and my vocabulary and grammar were less mature than now. Empirically, I am Qualified to be a competitive applicant except that I have to WORK on my GRE which is doable. Remember english is my second language & I speak generally three languages, Native in Arabic, full fluency in English, average in French. You have 0 qualifications to evaluate and judge my profile.
  10. Yes I am from Kuwait. And I am actually a MA student already, however I want to obtain a governmental scholarship from Kuwaits government, which can be obtained by earning an acceptance from a list of acreddited universities (90% of the schools listed are in the US and highly selective, while there are only 4 Canadian uni's and McMaster seemed the most flexible one in terms of requirements hence I am asking here) In addition, obtaining an acceptance (from McMaster for example) will grant me a governmental scholarship to pursue MA & PhD and when done with that, It'll end by becoming a faculty member (TA) in the dept. Of political science at kuwait university. Thats why Im simply asking.
  11. I would count on that when the testing center's work is based solely on providing a convenient environment for the test, however that test center has many other objectives aside from organizing tests. In addition, even if we would consider it a legitimate profitting, taking a 100$ does not seem convincing for me, i think something isnt right and illegal.
  12. Uconn, umass, uc santa cruz are very average unis dont worry.
  13. If you scored less than 100 in TOEFL and less than 315 combined score in GRE and your GPA is less than 3.60 dont waste your time and effort to apply to Yale MIT Harvard Stanford. I know they make us drool and sound flashy but I think you dont want to start your new year with "Sorry to inform you" e-mail letters. Best of luck, Campione!
  14. True I heard about that. I assume it stopped because ETS was getting less $$$ from it, since ETS is selfish and wants to grant only on making a guaranteed successful money, which comes by the general test.
  15. No doubt is cheating is both a bad & immoral & unethical behaviour. However, if you are in a situation that you think a test that you are taking, regardless of what type it is, if included many unmentioned to study topics. For instance, a prof recommended three chapters and brought questions from the fourth chapter and you asked him about that and he doesnt answer. And your mate knows the answer as its one of his interests and offers you to cheat, would it be ethical to cheat with your friends permission to assure you remain your high gpa ? Or youd sacrifice it and marks would be lost thus a lower grade to your grading history consequently a lower gpa because of a prof oppression? Id cheat, simply because rules are made to establish justice and equality at the same level. Oppression can be done with equality, but would vanish with justice. Cheating in such situation is a sneak logical way to achieve justice and surpass oppression. What about you folks?
  16. First: Uni of Minnesota - Twin cities is a prestigious reputable school. Second: the scores uve stated are true, but they r averages. Which means lower scores have been admitted, and your score is competitive. Third: do you really think a 310 cutoff would dump a whole application for a 309? This isnt a toefl score nor a gpa. Gre data are mostly illustrated as averages. 310 isnt a cutoff but usually is an average. Third: your last paragraph is a common knowledge.
  17. As stated, and the test can be registered in an authenticated testing center in Kuwait (Amideast center) they charge an additional 100$ than the original price of the test, I dont know why. Probably because you just have to pay and they would do the rest, which is still illogical and is almost a fraud. What confuses me is that i dont know whether ETS do know about that or not. They do the same with TOEFL IBT, actually TOEFL IBT registeration via this authenticated center by ETS costs 335$. And guess what? You cant register on the available early upcoming tests, they actually offer you a four date options to choose, and the EARLIESt date usually is after a month or 40 days. However, when you want to register via ets.org you can take the test within a week if you find a spot (which happens). What can i do about that? Is ETS aware? This is a fraud! What do you folks think?
  18. Folks I dont grasp why ETS is bothering us with this general test. Since GRE is a grad studies test, and grad studies are emphasized on a specific major, i think it is way better & practical to make a subject political science test. Why do we have to grasp reading comprehension essays on "Technology & evolution of car emissions impact on the environment" or "Types of extincting plants & what scientists are doing about it" As a political science student I would truly prefer something used in my field. For instance, Analytical writing questions on analyzing a specific political regimes statistical data in their stability/instability with a time frame, or questions on how to create a coherent hypothesis on a specific topic on IR or comparative politics with giving examples. With the previous samples, it would really indicate how ready & well prepared a political science prospective student is. Also the verbal part uses mostly a wide range of terms used in the political science literature. And the Quant. part gets rid of that sort of mathematical questions that even Kenneth Waltz ( political scientists: Neo-realism theory creator) would have never do and think about it. And just stick to the quant, methods which are used commonly in the political science field. I wish that type of GRE ever existed, it'd be an accurate, or atleast a more accurate indicator of how truly an applicant is well prepared and ready for his 'specified' major that he wants to pursue his grad studies in! Thoughts folks?
  19. Combined score with 309 and feeling bombed frustrates me. It is like having a 3.70 GPA and feeling concerned that a specific program to dump your application because of mediocre GPA. Op, your score is above average, unless you are planning to apply to Harvard, Yale, Stanford, MIT and top tier 1 schools. Your scores are competitve. Ease with the drama.
  20. Unless you're planning to apply to Harvard, Yale, MIT and top tier 1 universities and would want to be considered for TA's then retake. Otherwise going for a retake for other universities is a joke, im sorry. But your scores are above average and are competitive.
  21. Shatterd with those "Average" GRE scores? Are you serious my friend? You sir are maybe overconcerned. Your scores are average generally for a PhD applicant. And are kind of strong for MA studies. Your dreams with such scores -May- be shattered If you had intentions to be a student in Harvard, Yale or MIT. But for many other -Good- universities your profile even with such GRE scores is competitive. Your GPA is more than excellent, and can somehow compensate your -Average (not bad at all)- GRE scores. Many universities find a combined score of GRE portions of 300 is competitive, yet you are going way too far by stating such things which ruins your comfort. Take a deep breath, I know many friends with less GPAs, less work experiences, and of course less GRE scores whom got into PhD programs in good schools. You can retake the test its up to you of course its always better to achieve higher scores, however i really think you can get into many good schools with such a profile.
  22. Hey guys If any had any knowledge already regarding the MA program of Political science at McMaster University (Canadian). Is it very competitve and carefully selective? Or is it considered a normal program and the chances of qualified* applicants can be admitted? Id like to notify that Im an international prospective with a governmental scholarship student that funds all the expenses. *qualified is meant to have fulfilled the grad school & program requirements, with strong SOP & LORs. Looking forward some answers.
  23. Dear Latte, if you've read my topic carefully, you'd have noticed that i mentioned i already know and perceive the fact that GRE & TOEFL arent similar, thats first. Second, I forgot to mention that even If I had scored a FULL MARK in the GRE, I'd still consider it unrepresentitave & a deplorable test. As for the TOEFL, of course there has to be a test to measure english proficiency, which is covered by the TOEFL, however, that does not mean that the TOEFL is a good standarized test, despite my satisfying score in it which is eligible to many universities in the US, let me make it clear and state it: TOEFL has lots of flaws and weak english proficiency measures. For instance: 1- the Listening part does not focus on Listening as much as on measuring your memorizing strength, which makes the listening concept meaningless. 2- The reading part focuses mainly on a scientific based topics like "Technology of Orbits, Archaeology, Evolutionary biology" loaded with a specialized major-terms & concepts that has 0 relevance to the major I aim to pursue my studies in (Political science) topics arent event related to Social Sciences for Gods sake. 3- Speaking part despite being the easiest, however speaking to a computer shouldnt be a decent measurement to examine. 4- Writing. Briefly, The subjectivity plays a substantial role on how markers evaluate. If you write a decent essay and you know it, give it to at least three professional academics in its field. I am 100% sure that atleast TWO would give contradicting evaluations. This is simply the defect in the writing part. Tell me if that wasnt enough, because It was a brief.
  24. I really wish this topic is a joke, I wouldve accepted it with a smile. A 165 V 160 Q and asking for a retake? Have you ever seen/heard that those scores are moderate/low/less than average to ask for a retake? Please, if your were acknowledged by any source that considering a retake is better, refer me to that source so I can lecture him/her the bases of logic.
