My strategy for this cycle was pretty much what Gabe has outlined. I'm totally a non-traditional student and I feel I have a pretty unique story (probably not really, but I can flatter myself, right?). I also had to work ALOT on my application to get it to where it needed to be. I wish I had had a year instead of only six months to prepare the applications. Anyway, so far I've gotten one really good PhD admit and a couple of very respectable MA admits.

Hi Spoonman, I'm recalling all my programs just wanted an overall score of 80-90. Since this means average scores of 20-23 on each section, I don't think 18 would be a red flag. Just my guess. The schools know if you are living in the US (assume these are US programs since you mention the TOEFL) your English will only improve. And your other scores are very high.

First of all, ¡Felicidades! I agree with BBear. In my opinion you should visit all the schools, unless there are definite reasons to rule any out. You might discover many factors you didn't realize existed. Then you can make an informed decision.
