  1. Hi, probably you are lucky ! the fact that you will be able to tell your LOR writers what to write and what to tell is to be considered as a chance! The most important thing in your LOR is to be personalized, they have to focus on your abilities and skills but also on you being a nice person, if they could tell some stories, examples or anecdotes, that would be great. Here http://www.letterofrecommendation.biz/ you can get some real nice help about the writing. Good luck surlefil !
  2. That's great, showing you are grateful is a nice reward for them already, try to pick a gift related to the subject, such as a card with a nice thank you thing written by yourself on it, a nice (valuable) pen will be a nice gift to me, if you can get it personalized, that would be great!
  3. Go ahead, first of all you do not have a choice, you have to ask them otherwise you won't know if they are willing to give you new LOR or not. You can write a nice letter asking them for this, say something like they are the persons that know you, or something like you really liked the letters they wrote for you in the past, show them their letters are valuable for you, if they are retired they will appreciate you still remember them ! Good luck
  4. Hi, you still can ask for explanation from him, if you want a letter from him, so you need to show him you are involved and you are interested in knowing your weaknesses and what to do (according to him) to improve yourself.. If you really do not feel the thing, you still can remember that the most important thing is not the titles or the position of the recommender but the "story" told in the letter, look for someone else! Good luck
  5. Well it is true that's not nice .. But do not worry a lot for that, admissions commitees have already seen things like that, they know the writer could write dozens of letters and obviously he/she could make a mistake, the most important thing is the letter itself, since you say it is good, it's not a big deal then. Good luck
