    Hi peoples!

If you are going to call a school and ask if there is any more funding available and talk about your other offers, who do you call?

    Admissions office?
    Financial aid office?

I feel like I call places and I'm put in touch with a secretary who has no real power to give me more money. I could talk to the head of the department, but I feel like I've already talked to them about how funding is important to me... This may be a dumb question lol I don't know.

I think you should call. Calling them sucks and it would be easier to email, but yea, I think it is just the more respectful thing to do. Make sure to thank them and tell them how much you appreciate their offer....

    Just my opinion tho!

Was this about me?? Aw. Thanks gurl!!!

But yea, I got funding from the fiber department but I called SAIC sculpture and they already have given out their merit scholarships. If you didn't get a letter saying that you got a merit scholarship or an email, then I would guess that you didn't get one. But, you could call and ask like I did. It's awkward but whatever. The lady was really nice about it when I asked.

Don't go if you don't like it! You should feel like you deserve better than to go to a school that you don't like. But, use that offer to get more money for other schools you like more! Say, I would love to go to your school, but I got this offer from Louisiana state University which is really attractive from a financial viewpoint, can you match this offer or give me more money? Or something like that but better haha.... That's what I said to a school. You can do research online about how to approach a school for more money.

In my opinion and based on people I've talked to (art professors and curators), you are at a disadvantage going to a lower ranked school for becoming a professor, but it's a surmountable disadvantage.

It might just take you longer than someone who goes to one of the top schools to become a professor. Four to eight years adjuncting and building up a resume teaching I hear would be normal. On the other hand, many of the top schools are very expensive so you'd have to take out loans possibly. Loans are a disadvantage and prison within themselves as well and you have no guarantee to becoming a professor.

Yea, just my opinion, take it or leave it

Now you're making me doubt it too!!

Maybe the lady I was talking to took pity on me and didn't want to break my little artist heart....

That's awesome! Also, I see SAIC on your list....

acceptances start to go out this week!! Crazy. I heard that fiber and material studies and sculpture may even start calling today. Financial aid packages sent out the end of this week/ beginning of next. ( I asked a financial aid officer while I was in Chicago and different faculty members)

So how did everyone's interviews go?  Sculpture faculty and students were great.  Challenging interview questions that were really engaged with the work, but only in an open and generous way - my perspective / experience.  So many things I wish I'd said in hindsight, but otherwise felt ok (I hope!).  It was definitely my most challenging interview so far, but also solidified my interest in the program.

Has anyone... Gotten an acceptance email from Ohio State sculpture department

    OR

contacted by the UCLA sculpture department

    OR

contacted by the Columbia sculpture program??

Still waiting for VCU too and keeping my hopes up despite that others have gotten interviews already... A lot of people assume rejection if others say they've heard before them for interviews, but I think that might be a little bit of an extreme reaction.... I heard from Berkeley before some people and I heard from SAIC after a bunch for people for their sculpture department... It seems as if interview requests don't go out all at the same time for whatever reason! Chins up peeps!

Leahdog reacted to seeingeyeduck in Do art graduate programs care about Withdraws on your college transcript?? Please help!
They should mainly care about your portfolio, then your show record. I had a horrible cumulative GPA and still got into the program I wanted. I would mention it briefly (like a sentence) in your statement just in case but play up the fact that you did it because you were dedicated to art and prioritized art.

Also, I think your GPA is still very respectable so don't worry too much. I don't think committees even look at that stuff much at first. Focus on the portfolio!
