  1. And it's pointless to come in using language and tone that's knowingly rude. It doesn't matter if it sounded rude to anyone who responded to your initial post, because that initial post itself was rude. If you're genuinely as concerned as you say you are, why not start a separate thread to express those concerns and offer your thoughts? Some people here are talking about money, but most are just talking about acceptances and rejections and the anxiety that precedes them. There are plenty of ways to make the case for avoiding $100,000 or more of debt. The idea that anyone here needs your particular brand of tough love is an odd reason to finally register and speak up. But if you do feel that strongly about it, why not scrap the snark for some sincerity, even if that seems weird on the internet. Or just link to that Jerry Saltz column and tell people it's a worthwhile read.
  2. And this is utterly unrelated to your original post.
  3. I don't know anything about CCA. Didn't apply there. I got into and will be going to Pratt, I'm just eager to get my financial aid info and was curious if anyone had already received theirs. Not that that would even be especially useful information for me personally, just curious and anxious. =) I'm lucky in that I live in Brooklyn already, have a great apartment situation, and am already accustomed to the cost of living here. Brooklyn's cheaper than Manhattan but probably pretty much on par with what it costs to live in San Francsico.
  4. Anyone here who's been accepted to Pratt's ID program and received financial aid info?
  5. I found out yesterday that I've been accepted to the graduate ID program at SCAD. In the course of looking into the various schools I applied to, over the past few months I've come across a LOT of negative comments about the general culture at SCAD. From the level of interest on the part of the faculty, to unhelpful administrative offices, to a sense that SCAD cares more about its image than it does its academic reputation. A lot of those comments seemed to come from either undergrads or parents of undergrads, and I've not seen anything of that sort as it relates specifically to the ID program. From what I can tell the ID program is very well regarded and is mentioned alongside Pratt, RISD, and the like. I do intend to visit, and a friend of a friend just completed her bachelor's there in the ID program, so I will have some first hand commentary to consider. I was just wondering if anyone around here had any insight to kindly toss my direction. At this point I've also been accepted at Georgia Tech, so I'm in the fortunate position of being able to choose between at least two schools. Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated. Good luck to everyone out there who's still waiting on decisions.
  6. Thanks, this is great. I mean, it doesn't make SCAD sound great, but it's the kind of info I'm looking for. I have a feeling that when I visit and get a look at the ID facilities it's going to seem like a great place to go. And I've come across a few comments that mostly echo yours, but with the caveat that SCAD seems to put a lot of resources into the ID program. So it's possible that if I chose to attend I would be in the "sweet spot", so to speak", where maybe some of these other issues either aren't as bad or don't seem as bad in the context of the rest of the program. But yeah, I'm already wary of what I might be getting myself into if I go there.

  8. And that sounds far whinier than I intended. But, having never been through this process before, I'm just a bit surprised than some answers are taking as long as they are. Alas.
  9. Anyone else just wondering, like, um, when the heck are some of these schools going to send out decisions? I didn't think my future would still be THIS cloudy just a few weeks before an April 15th deadline.
  10. Well, I applied to all sorts of schools. I don't have an art/design background, so I was first looking for schools with 3-year programs where Year 1 "catches me up". And beyond that I applied to several two-year programs that say they're willing to accept non-design background applicants. CCS was like that, even though it's pretty "business-y", so I didn't expect to get in there. IIT is more business-y, too. But I've got several name-brand art schools in there, too. Just trying to maximize my chances, really.
  11. I had a Skype interview with the assistant dean at IIT in Chicago three weeks ago. I also was rejected by CCS in early February but they basically do rolling admissions, I believe.
