  1. Congratulations on your glaring successes in this cycle. I am someone who once asked you about the rhetoric program at Berkeley and now am gathering all my nervers to ask for one more. Would it be okay to share your SoP? I am sorry if this offends, but as a Chinese transsexual woman, I really need to look for a good program to establish myself first (not the only but might be the best). Thanks...

  2. Trust me, I have submitted an unusual application and the least I could expect would be how many applicants and my rank. Thanks for hearing me, though.

  3. Hi, I am the starter of the thread and think I am in a position to complain a bit about the "unfair treatment" by the rhetoric program. It was just an email from the grad school that directed us to the website. Worse still, the website simply read "the committee does not recommend you for admission". This short sentence is clearly what I was paid back after paying 90 bucks and w...

  4. Hi, have you had your interview with UT Austin yet? I am a Chinese and supposed to have a phone interview. So far no professor has contacted me though, but someone already posts an acceptance to the program. I start to become concerned. How about your situation? Best luck!

  5. Hi Beck,

I have also received an interview invitation from UT Austin. As an international applicant in China, I have also suggested some time for phone interviews. So far no professor has contacted me, although coordinator has already confirmed my confirmation. How about you? Best luck.

  6. I meant the Gender Studies PhD program at IU Bloomington. I guess I will have to go for masters first, given my limited exposure to that area in my earlier studies. Good luck to you.

  7. Hi, I am sorry for the late response. They have already notified their admits on Feb 5, indeed. I have kept correspondence with a faculty member but still got a rejection (assumed though, I don't think they have sent out their rejection letters).

  8. I considered myself as a bad person because I wished the post to be fake. As far as I know, the qualifications are indeed Is the qualification of the admitted like 800V 800Q 5.5 Writing and an almost 4.0GPA. It is someone from a reknowned university in the US. I guess my common backgrounds are no match for them. So....

  9. Hi, I was indeed referring to UCB. But I guess I was really a bad person though. I am actually excited and marvelled to find the qualifications of one admit at the program the other day. Clearly, a long way to go for me, at least. Good luck to your applications.

  10. Hi, I noticed that you are admitted into the rhetoric program at Berkeley. What criterion do you think are important? GREs? SoP? or anything else? I also applied for the program but so far received nothing. I think I might have to reapply later again. Many thanks!

  11. Anyway, I might be a bit sad now. I am afraid that I did not even pass the first round. Luckily, I also applied to a few master's program, to secure the US as my next stop. BTW, are you in a position to confirm whether there are some TS students in the program? I guess I will have to have another MA first and then apply again in a couple of years. Many, many thanks!

  12. Thanks for your rapid response. I have already had an MA in English in China, though. I graduated a few years earlier and then had a M2F transition without any counselling or support group available in China. I reviewed these experiences in my materials and had a former teacher of mine in the US reviewing them. I do think that if they have had a chance to read my history, they should be touched.

  13. Hi, could you share someinformation about what on earth do they look for in the rhetoric major? I noted from their preface that critical self-reflection in statement is of utmost importance and indeed addresses those in my applications. But I had a bad gre verbal of 560, though. I realy appreciate any information that you can share. This program has been my dream and I don't want to let it go. thx

  14. Hi, I also noticed the post just now. Was it even real? I really hope not. The department seems to release results consistently at the very end of January in the previous years. What is your proposed study? Mine is to approach transsexualism from the perspective of cultural and critical studies.

  15. Hi, it seems that we have applied to lots of same programs. What is your proposed study then? Mine is to approach transsexualism from the perspetive of cultural and critical studies. But with a GRE verbal of 560, I really have no idea about my chances of getting admitted. Keep in touch.

  16. I also applied to the two programs you mentioned at UMich and PSU. No update has reached me so far. I am actually starting to become concerned as I did not perform well in my GRE verbal. Wish all of us good luck and keep in touch!
  17. It seems that the results would be released in a week. Keeping my fingers crossed for all of us!
  18. Glad to find this thread. I have also been checking the results quite a number of times every day, driving myself mad. What makes me sad is that as an international student, I know nothing about other applicants competing for the positions with me. This deprivation of control or prediction over my course really lets me down....
  19. Any one who has applied for women's or gender studies in 2010? I have applied for the programs at Emory, IU Bloomington, UT Austin. So far no feedback.
  20. Has anyone applied for the rhetoric program at UC Berkeley? I am from China and has submitted my application for the 10fall semester. So far, no feedback or information. Anyone, would like to share? Many thanks!
