Can you provide the email address you wrote to when asking for feedback? I emailed the person who sent the rejection letter (their email was in the header) a little over a week ago. Haven't heard back....maybe I should be using a different address?

I got my rejection (in California) yesterday, Feb 9th, in the mail.

Anyone hear anything? SSRC usually notifies around the first week of February...

Another applicant here. Hopefully we get the first round news (transcript requests or rejection) this week.
  5. Just checking in here. I applied for a research grant to the European Union. Any other EU applicants hanging around? I also applied last year, but for a research grant to a different country. Good luck to everyone. Hope there is lots of good news around here tomorrow!

    NSF DDIG

A week ago tomorrow (Tues 7/22). I just randomly logged, went to the proposal status page, clicked on my proposal (which had been updated to declined) and there they were.

Huh, that's weird. My was changed to declined and my reviews were there. I just never got an email alerting me to this status change.

Re poli sci log in and check your status. Should be updated now. They just never sent any kind of email prompting you to log in and check.

Still waiting here for political science. I know some acceptances have gone out but I'm still waiting to hear anything either way (I'm assuming it's a rejection at this point). Has anyone else heard anything? I emailed several weeks ago asking about my status and requesting my reviews...didn't get a response.

Still waiting here for the political science January deadline response. My application status also states that it has been under review since May 5th. My colleague who won the NSF (or to be more precise, got the email saying "we are recommending you for the grant) got the email shortly after the May 5 review date. I just want them to get the rejection over with, and more importantly, send my comments.

Just wondering if anyone knows how long it takes to get access to comments for a proposal that was rejected.
  13. I did precisely what you are considering. My first round of applications was not very successful. One acceptance off the waitlist at a school ranked 25+. I accepted the place because being somewhere was better than being nowhere. I retook the GRE over the summer before I started grad school, reapplied in the fall, and now am at a top 10. You need to think about what is best for you in the long term, given your academic goals. The market is tough. I knew if I stayed at my original program, I was going to struggle to get a job. Even now, being at a top 10, the market is still going to be tough, but I'm in a better position. I'm getting much better training and my interests are a better fit. I wouldn't worry too much about betraying any future advisor by leaving. First, it's not uncommon for a student or two to leave the program, for whatever reason, after one year. Second, most faculty are not going to invest heavily in a first year student...it's not like the sciences where you are working in their lab for them. In fact, when I told my assigned advisor at my old program that I had been accepted to a top ten and would be leaving he was super supportive. (I hadn't told him about my applications until I got the acceptance).
  14. Congrats on the good news last cycle! I'm just bummed to hear that it takes that long to get a response.
  15. I applied for the Lewis and Clark. Total shot in the dark, but the app didn't require much more effort given everything I've had to do for all my other applications. Do you know anything about when we hear from them?

Nothing in my email (boo) and nothing in my snail mail (yay). I just want to know!

    SSRC 2014

I looked back at some old threads and in one year, the requests came out over the course of 5-6 days. So, I guess if we hear nothing by the end of the week, we should be expecting the thin envelope. Hopefully that's not the case for any of us! By the way, here is another source: academicjobs.wikia.com/wiki/Dissertation_Fellowships_2014-2015

    SSRC 2014

From what I've seen from other sites, they tend to come out around now...end of Jan/beginning of February. Based on what I've read about past years, requests for additional materials come out over a several day span and rejection letters come via snail mail. Re Nrrrdgrrrl's questions, I don't have any guesses as to which grant is most likely. All the competitions are tough, so I think my odds are pretty much the same for all of them.
  19. A late contribution to the playlist from yesterday, but this song has been my Fulbright mantra for the past few weeks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZbKHDPPrrc que sera sera...
  20. Ah so you are a fellow applicant to France?! I'm hoping to be based in Paris. Hopefully we both get good news in this round and the next. We can celebrate with some wine in France.

I applied for a ton of grants. Currently most anxious about Fulbright, but it sounds like we'll be updated about that early next week.

    SSRC 2014

That sounds interesting! I'm hoping to go to several countries in Western Europe. I focus on political economic and policy reform in the European Union. I hope we both get good news. First round notification should be coming soon, right?

I'm also applying for the SSRC. My field is political science. Hopefully we'll be getting good news in a few weeks.
  24. This is why I was asking earlier if anyone had heard anything from their FPAs. I didn't apply last year, but based on the board, it appears that some people in this forum were tipped off by their FPA (other people's FPAs toed Fulbright party line of "end of the month"). I was hoping that we'd be getting other people reporting in with good news from their FPAs but the fact that we haven't unfortunately makes me think we'll be waiting a little while longer.
  25. The fact that, by now, the Fulbright folks most likely already know whether or not we have made this first cut is driving me crazy. I ask myself, "what are they doing?" "Why are they letting us dangle?" Though I realize the people who work there must be nice and friendly and not cold hearted, I can't help but picture them, cackling over their coffee, saying "how much longer should we make them wait? Let's not send those emails just yet! Let's send a survey and freak them all out! And make passing reference to their nerves! haha!"
