    To add on my last status about totally unsupportive, insulting family member - just got told by them that I won't get into any PhD program because I'm not smart enough. Ugh. Wish I didn't let it bother me so much.

      I had family members (and a high school boyfriend) who told me that I wasn't smart enough to take AP classes back in high school. I believed them and had low self-esteem issues that barred me from recognizing my full potential and being aggressive in academic pursuits. It took years for me to realize that it was *them* who didn't feel smart enough to take AP classes, and they wanted me to feel the same way too. Misery loves company.

      Well, here's hoping that the next time they open their mouths to criticize, that you have an acceptance letter you can stick right in there. (I have family that are not accepting of who I am and lots of practice in making sure that I don't care).
