  1. I talked to the head of the department at the university I did my undergrad at about this. Essentially he said yes, but change it up a little to meet the OGS guidelines.. I also found that the OGS for clinical applicants is different than the OGS for experimental applicants. For example, the OGS for UOttawa didn't ask for a research proposal, rather it asked me why I'm interested in that University, why I think I'm a good candidate, &c.
  2. Congrats to yourself as well! That's what my POI said.. She said not to expect to see anything about acceptances until late Jan or early Feb. : ) Hope your interview goes well: )
  3. Not necessarily. My husband and I applied to all the same schools, I was interviewed at Ryerson in December and he was just contacted late last week for a interview. I think it depends on your POI's schedule and organizational habits at this point! Good luck!
  4. Hello, Glad to see there's finally a Canadian thread. I applied to Ryerson, UOttawa, Carleton, Regina, UVIC, and Iowa State. I already had my interview at Ryerson and my POI said that the school sends out acceptances at the end of January/the beginning of February.
  5. I think that you should re-take the GRE unless you have proof that your score was just bad luck.. For example I scored 150 in Q but received 90% in both an advanced stats course and psychometrics. If you have this you can address it in you SOP. If you do decide to retake the GRE, Magoosh is a wonderful website. Good luck!
  6. If your city has a suicide hotline you should try to volunteer there. It's really good experience and they most likely won't care about your GPA.
  7. Old Family Guy wasn't that funny.. New Family guy is just offensive..
  8. beer, family guy, chocolate baked goods..
  9. It seems like it's a little late to weigh in but what the hell I'll do it anyways.. I feel like e-mailing profs too early is a waste of time since their ability to accept a new student depends on a lot of factors (e.g., if their current students are going to finish their thesis & funding ext). To be clear what I mean by 'too early' is I wouldn't e-mail people 6 months in advance. I applied to four experimental psychology programs and two clinical psychology programs with due dates ranging from Dec 1st to Jan 15th and I sent out my initial e-mail to my POI's in early October. As said previously, I didn't ask questions that are answered on the university webpage or on the prof's website. I always stated my research interests and attached a CV. I got really good responses from everyone I e-mailed. If they asked me any additional questions I responded in a prompt manner to make sure that they knew I was serious about applying to them. I also e-mailed them after I officially applied to let them know that I had done so and listed them as my desired supervisor. I also let them know what external funding I applied to. I kept this e-mail brief but it seemed effective and everyone of my POI's sent me an e-mail along the lines of 'great looking forward to seeing your application.. OR... Great I'll keep and eye out for your application".
  10. A lot of Canadian clinical schools outrank U.S. schools (including Berkeley) on their EPPP scores, which allows me to presume their quality of instruction must be quite excellent. http://www.socialpsychology.org/clinrank.htm I also feel like the quality of connections you make does not completely depend on the school you attend. One of the best pain researchers in the world works at UNBC (University of Northern B.C.), a University that is usually overlooked.. Also you can always connect with academics at other facilities and collaborate on a project. It depends on an individuals' determination and desire to make good connections IMO.
  11. I guess you're taking a 'risk' either way. I highly doubt this will play any role in deciding your admittance though! And yes please PM me the school. I basically stalk this site everyday and it results in me getting anxiety when I see people already have interviews.. Just want to ease my suffering and hopefully it's not a school I applied to!
  12. I would try to get it swapped, the worst thing that will happen is they will say no. If you can't get it swapped I don't think it's a huge deal.. I mean you still got the interview: ) Can I ask what school?
  13. It is my understanding that profs may be able to see them. However, I don't think one C+ (even if it is in your respective field) is a huge deal.. Professors are only human, the ones I'm close with seem to understand that life happens and no one can score perfectly all the time. If you are accepted and they see you have one C+ I think they would be willing to overlook it. It would probably be a big deal if this was a continued trend in your final year. My advice is not to stress too much about it : ) We all make mistakes!
  14. Accidentally gave myself reputation points.. Guess I think I'm pretty 'smart'.

  15. Noor123, a professor at my school explained to me that American private schools will accept Americans vs. Internationals based solely on their fit with the program and their accomplishments because they want the best of the best. He said most private schools will fund International students completely. He said this is unlikely to be the case at state schools. However, Iowa state has told me that they waive international students tuition if accepted and that they give a stipend of 16,000 (roughly). They also said that they give TA and RAships that would be an additional income outside of the yearly stipend. I think it really comes down to the school and how far they are willing to go to get their first pick of incoming students.
  16. Tell your 'friend'I say congrats
  17. Yes I believe that constitutes being invited
  18. I'm pretty torn between experimental and clinical.. Mostly because I love research and statistics and I know I will not have as much time to pursue these while taking a clinical degree. At the same time I'm interested in clinical work. I would say uOttawa and Carleton are my top choices. Is it your top choice?
  19. I've already started to compulsively check my e-mail for e-mails from the graduate schools I applied to..

The waiting is agonizing. After the universities received everything and my application files were complete, I began obsessively checking my email multiple times a day. The first response was a rejection that was hard to swallow. Then one day I was so busy I forgot to check my email, is the day I received my acceptance letter. After receiving my acceptance letter from the second university I withdrew my application to the third university I applied to because I would not be able to start...

  20. I applied to UOttawa for Clinical and was wondering if anyone has been experiencing the same problem as me. My online application says I only mailed in my official transcripts and that they are missing my CV, statement of interest, and supplemental information form. All of my application was in the same envelope.. I know that these forms are probably just taking longer to process but it is stressing me out..
  21. Done: ) Good luck!
  22. Sigh.. I'm doing the same thing.. My husband has somehow already heard from 3/5 schools he applied to.. My sanity only comes from the fact that he submitted his applications about 3-4 weeks before I did.. Seriously though I check my e-mail on my phone when I wake up, after I shower, while making coffee, on the bus, at work ext.. Basically anywhere I can get 3G..
  23. To be more specific I have worked as a data analyst for the Geography department at UBCO, as a RA at two separate labs (data analysis, literature reviews, writing portions of papers that were published, updating manuscripts ext.) I have one paper published and am currently editing another manuscript that is getting ready to be submitted for publication. I have also presented at two national conferences. I will have to start contacting professors ASAP to get my name out there, I'm just not exactly sure how detailed the e-mails that I am going to be sending should be ... Or how casual/formal they should be.. Yikes there's a lot to figure out.. Anyway, two of the five schools that I am applying to do not require my GRE scores (fingers crossed). Thanks for all your input!!
  24. Thanks for replying! I think I might wait to see what my AWA score is before I decide.. If I am applying to programs without specific GRE cutoffs, is it possible that my statistics grades (86 and 88 in second year, 90 in advanced states, and 89 in upper level psychometrics) will balance out my quantitative score? I feel that I am very competent in the realm of statistics.. It just happens to be that geometric shapes aren't my forte... Thanks, K.
  25. Hello everyone, I took the general GRE today and got a score of 157 verbal and 150 quantitative. In my undergrad I have an average of 87% overall, 89% in Psychology, and 87% in five statistics classes. I have completed my honours degree and have a vast amount of research experience though data analyst, and RA jobs. I am looking to apply to experimental Social Psychology this year, and am wondering if I should re-take the GRE. Thanks! K.
