  1. still haven't heard anything from u of t. I'm starting to feel quite defeated at this point...
  2. haha oops, totally repeated what you said
  3. I'm wondering maybe they were filtered out early because their application was missing something or they didn't meet the minimum qualifications to be considered (i.e. having a research methods course, too low GPA).
  4. do you receive just a letter of acceptance in the mail? or a bigger package with more documents like for undergrad?
  5. damn, i never even considered commuting there. I live in mississauga so its like a 1 hr and 45 min drive from my house. I'd figure it would be nice to live there in the summer months because its by the lake but also not down to have to pay rent for the 7 months I'm not there...
  6. Glad I could help! and thanks! I hope we all get into an MSW somewhere so we don't have to even consider a BSW! Good luck to you as well
  7. 100% agree. My personal statement was way too broad now that I look back. I didn't connect it well enough to the core values and skills a social worker should have. They want to know that you know what type of personality traits and skills would make a good social worker. Thats what my friend did and she got in. Although I don't think they care too much about relevant experience, you just need to know how to sell the experiences you have and connect them to social work. That is def something I will focus on for next yr if I don't get in this time around!
  8. I don't think they care when you applied. My friend submitted her application on December 15, 30 min before the deadline and I submitted like 10 min after her and she got an offer in the first round (I have yet to hear back though.)
  9. I applied to the Lakehead (Orillia) program after my friend enrolled in it this year. She's almost done and now has been accepted to the 1 yr MSW at McMaster for Fall 2016. She said its fairly easy, you can do your placement anywhere in Ontario (even abroad) and only have to live there for 4-5 months. Thats the only thing I'm skeptical about tho, having to take out a lease for a whole yr and only be living there for 4 months.... Other than that, thats my backup plan if I don't get into an MSW this yr. The benefit is that you will have a BSW that will allow you to work in a bunch of social service jobs, so if you reapply and don't get into an MSW, you can still work in the field until you do. And plus, having a BSW lets you take a 1 yr MSW which opens up a lot more universities that only have 1 yr programs (aka Ryerson, McMaster, McGill to name a few). So in the end, its like doing a 2 yr MSW if do a 1 yr BSW and then a 1 yr MSW afterwards. Also, I've heard U of T favours the Lakehead program students for the 1 yr program so...But let's just hope I get into the Lakehead program first before getting too excited... (but U of T is still my top choice by far!)
  10. Also, a friend of mine got an acceptance to the 2 yr at U of T around April 22 last yr so there's still hope if you haven't heard back so far (this is the only thing keeping me sane rn)
  11. Congrats!! You're so lucky to hear back so early!! Still says "no registration history" on my ROSI.... I just got a rejection from McGill so I'm kinda starting to lose hope :'(
  12. did anyone apply to u of t MSW in the past and not get in? If so, what does it say on ROSI (not admitted, waitlisted, etc.)? I doubt the sgs will update anytime soon with "decision made"
  13. congrats for those of you who got into the 2 yr MSW at u of t already! the anticipation is killing me!! I've applied to MSW programs at U of T and Laurier, Counselling at McGill and the HBSW at Lakehead as a backup. Still no word from anyone yet, really hoping for u of t as its my top choice. I graduated from psych and neurosci at Mac in april 2015. Was rejected from counselling psych and school & child clinical psych last yr so thought I'd get into the mental health field through a msw. I graduated with a 3.8ish GPA in my last 2 yrs, have some research experience through research courses/volunteering and have 4+ months of ABA/IBI experience through my honours thesis. I am also currently working as an ABA therapist for kids with autism (which wasn't on my resume when I applied ) My volunteer experience is pretty weak as it was not focused on social services or mental health, but moreso I dabbled in a bunch of different experiences which I regret now as I've heard that's a big plus for grad school. I have tons of experience working with children which is what I want to focus on anyways. My friend is currently completing the HBSW at Lakehead (Orillia campus) and got into Mac for 2016. She spoke highly of the program as you can do your placement anywhere (local, national or international), only have to live in Orillia for about 4-5 months and its fairly easy to pull off a high GPA. So I'd suggest those of you without a BSW to consider that if MSW doesn't work out this yr. I realllyyyyyy hope I get in this yr as it is next to impossible to find a relevant job with a BA in psych these days
