    Thanks! I graduated with a psych degree and lots of research experience from undergrad. 3.7 or so GPA. Work experience was kinda irrelevant, just worked with special needs kids which I connected to UXD. I think it was my personal statement that sold me because I spent a whole month on it, versus a week when applying to U of T in past years.

    Lol I feel kinda bad about my rant earlier... I finally decided to email Andrea and she told me a decision was just made today and that I've been accepted! I'm so so happy! My ROSI/ACORN have not yet updated, so gonna wait until I recieve the official letter. For those of you waiting, I suggest you make sure to email Andrea if you haven't already done so. She will tell you the status of your application.

    man its so quiet on here these past 2 weeks.... does anyone who went to lakehead before the MSW know if they give scholarships or bursaries to HBSW students? all of the ones on the website are geared towards high school students..

    my friend said that its not too difficult, she has a high 80, low 90 average right now. she didn't say much about the profs, just mentioned that they are understanding if you can't show up to class one day or something. the practicum can be done anywhere--can be local, within canada or international. you just have to arrange for an practicum on your own and have it approved by the school. she's overall happy she went, because she just wanted to do her MSW at Mac which only offers a 1 yr program. The only issue I'm having is that it starts in July which means that I will lose money and 2 months of work if I get accepted to an MSW before Sept.

    k so this is what my friend said: you will have to be in Orillia from July to around December, like 4-5 times a week. Some summer courses only teach material straight from the textbook and don't take attendance so you don't necessarily have to be in class all the time. August and December are the months where you will have fewest classes so its not really worth it to rent there. If you can find a rental for 4 months, that would be ideal but most people could only find min 6 month up to 1 yr leases, and they were in like basements of residents' houses. She's from Hamilton so the commute would be over 2 hours for her, but she would recommend commuting if you can. Although she said the earliest class started around 8:30 am...which means having to leave your house super early which I will not be down for if its everyday for several months. She would usually drive home on the weekends too because she would get homesick so again, if you're not considering staying weekends, then commuting would be a better option. She also said to stay away from residences because they rip you off in terms of expense and some are just 1 room and a desk. With that being said, I may just commute there or if I find a 4 month lease, I'll stay for a bit and commute the other months. But first thing I wanna do is visit the campus one day, maybe end of April, early May to get a feel of it and what it has to offer. Anyone down to do this?

    hey! I'll ask my friend the specifics of how long she needed to rent and where to rent and post that info here soon. I kinda wanted to live in orillia even for that short time since it will be summer and near the lake and I can go exploring lol. But if nowhere will accept rents for 4-5 months, then maybe commuting can be a last resort (though I really wanna move out!)

    ya, I may have gotten a little carried away there :P...I was looking into alternatives in case I didn't even get into lakehead and those seemed soo cool. It didn't take me long after posting to think logically though haha. My plan is to do the BSW, and then if I absolutely hate it for whatever reason, I will apply to advertising. But if I really enjoy it, then I'll apply for the MSW afterwards. And besides, the lakehead app was so expensive and I went through so much stress to get it submitted on time that I might as well reap the rewards of my efforts. So maybe its a good thing I didn't get into the MSW just yet since I'm having second thoughts atm... Alsooo, the good thing about college programs is that they're usually open til late august anyways, and they respond to your application within 2 weeks which is amazing!! So if anyone doesn't hear back from any schools this yr, consider doing a post grad certificate or 1 yr diploma in a related field if u want more experience. A friend of mine did his post grad in addictions counselling and got into u of t 2 yr this past yr!

    so I just got into Lakeheads 1 yr BSW (Orillia campus)...but now I'm torn because I've taken getting waitlisted at u of t as a sign that maybe I'm not meant to work in social services (I've been applying for 2 yrs now and still nothing). And now I'm looking into applying to college programs in advertising because I miss being creative, lol so random I know....If I apply now, I don't know when I would hear back from them and I'm pretty sure lakehead requires a response by early june......ahhh what to do??

    k so i braved the cold and checked the mail, and i have also been waitlisted at u of t (whoop dee doo)....based on how many people have been waitlisted, i doubt i will get in at this point. and lakehead app still hasn't updated...#foreverwaiting

    i would look into the streams that each school offers. I know mcgill has a mental health stream which is why I personally would apply there. But if its comparable, I would stick to laurier since you're guaranteed to get your MSW at the end. I spoke to someone at McGill and they said you have to reapply to the 1 yr Masters after the qualifying year, and you're not 100% guaranteed to be accepted to the MSW after (esp if you don't do so well). And that one year would go to waste since its not a BSW program, its specific to mcgill. I personally wouldn't want to hassle my references again if I don't have to so I would say stick to laurier esp if you plan on working in ontario (where you can make connections through placements)

    part of me is kinda glad I didn't get into Laurier, because my top choice is U of T since I live in and want to work in the GTA near downtown. I was even considering rejecting Laurier for Lakehead lol.. So its either U of T for MSW or 1 yr BSW and then apply to the 1 yr at U of T after, which I am already more confident of getting into than I am of getting into the 2 yr program. I really doubt they care about 100 less hours. and ya, they prob are spreading everything out at this point....at least you will know sooner if you get in or are rejected

    According to a friend of mine in the program, he got into U of T around April 7/8 last yr and people start getting pulled off the waitlist around the end of May up until July. So I'm guessing the very last bit of offers will be completed by the end of April/early May since people have to respond within 3 weeks.

    I just checked at 12 pm, so it might've been last night or this morning. Ya, I took the 3500 hr requirement fairly lightly since many schools don't care, I guess they actually do care a lot. Thanks for the moral support tho! and hey, if you haven't heard anything yet, you prob still have a fair shot! crossing my fingers and my toes for ya!

    just checked LORIS and alas, another unsuccessful application....rejected from 2/4 programs, this is truly depressing

    ok thats good. I'll be able to tell what it is before i even open it. I'm gonna check the mail now, I'm kinda hopeful that they didn't update my ROSI but I still got in
