  1. Sorry, I don't have much of an idea. I decided after working at UT for that summer that I wasn't interested in pet eng so I never paid any attention. Good luck with your application though!
  2. I spent one summer in the petroleum engineering department at UT Austin, as an undergrad researcher. When I was there I got the impression that they were still trying to cut back on the number of international students in their department (for funding reasons, they're a public school). Texas A&M is also a public school in Texas. That doesn't mean that they don't admit internationals (there were more international students than domestic students when I was there), but it will be harder. http://www.utexas.edu/ogs/prospective/stats/pdf/avg-gpa-gre-2012.pdf Page 10 on this document shows the average GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and GRE scores for the 2012 application cycle.
  3. you should be fine for UT Austin I think, depending on whether or not you're international. Texas is kind of harsh to internationals. You can find a lot of the stats for admissions on their website (average GPA, gre scores, etc).
  4. If he is a long tenured professor and told you to email him when you apply, then he can tell the admissions committee he doesn't care about your GRE score and will fund you. It's a very big deal having someone on the inside. A 157 on Q isn't terrible, especially if you have someone on your side at the uni.
  5. Didn't get an interview. A crazy guy at my uni who I thought would surely win it didn't even get an interview. Must've been a competitive year. Makes me nervous for grad admissions.
  6. You shouldn't tell us you won Goldwater. A simple search with your home institution reveals your name. Unless you don't care about your anonymity. On topic: Yale doesn't have a very highly ranked chemE program, so I'm sure they'd love to have you.
  7. I applied. I know a few others who applied as well.
  8. Are you in the United States? If so, I think you should stand a chance for a mid range masters program.
