  1. Don't jump to conclusions. There were people in previous cycles who got rejected in 8 out of 10 schools they applied. They still got acceptances. Waiting is annoying, but there are still plenty of schools out there that have not yet sent their decisions. I am in very similar position as you: got 3 oficial rejections, one from school I really thought was a best shot.
  2. Hope is still alive for UCLA since they did not send all acceptances at once.
  3. Well, if 23 students got in, chances are slim. I hope that maybe other schools will send their decisions this week. I think NYU has sent all acceptances by this point, though they probably have waitlist also. I hope Princeton will come this week (previous year they started sending decisions at 11 February). I also mailed POI in Columbia about decisions, but no response so far.
  4. I wrote e-mail to Rochester, and Department Administrator told me that acceptances have been sent out and I have to wait to for notification. Maybe they will send more offers this week, but that is what I was told.
  5. I wrote them e-mail. Joseph Brown told me that they will be sending more offers later, most likely the next week. Rochester has already sent all initial offers, but they have waitlist. Nothing new abouy NYU also.
  6. Me too. I sent them e-mail to check if that is all or they plan to send another acceptances later. They had small incoming cohort last year, but a year before they had a pretty large cohort, about 20 or so I think. If they plan to accept large cohort this year, I presume there are still some offers which were not yet sent.
  7. II got indergrad degree from school outside US, it did not calculate numeric GPA, but yes, I got the highest grades. I am currently in good gradprogram in US, just decided to try to get into top-10. My GRE's are not perfect. but 160+ in both sections. I did the following calculation: pool of applicants to top schools is more or less similar. Applying to 10+ schools gives you raw odds 1 to 3, given 500+ application to each (of course, some schools have less). I figured out that with my stats I have a chance to get into at least one, so why not use it? My weak points were probably undergrad diploma (nodoby really knows my undegrad university) and maybe SOP, though I though that SOP should be on the stronger side. But after 3 rejections I don't really know.
  8. Nothing from UCLA or Rochester so far. NYU also silent... I guess all acceptances of this week were mailed, but I guess UCLA and NYU have not notified all applicants yet. Also hope to hear good news from Rochester on Monday.
  9. Thank you. Hope good news will come soon.
  10. Oficially rejected at WashU. I really thought it was a good shot, but ce la vie...
  11. Waiting for my rejection from WashU:) Quiet so far, but I guess they send acceptances first anyway, so it is just a matter of time.
  12. Congrats. I am still waiting for WashU, but did not get any e-mails yet...
  13. BTW, your POI already told you that you are accepted?
  14. I will probably get it tomorrow. I know that NYU can post waitlists couple of days after sending acceptances. I am not sure whether acceptances are all mailed at once.
  15. That is my question as well... I was freaking out so I dropped a message to DGS. He told me yesterday that they are finalizing process, but after today's acceptances I dropped another letter to confirm whether all acceptances were mailed or there is still hope. For me, after two rejections from two good programs acceptance to NYU will be fantastic...
  16. Still hope for NYU but this hope is thin... I really need accept from this school. 3 rejects will be bad, though I will still have 8 schools more to go...
  17. Thanks you very much for the information! NYU also plans to send decisions next week, so I guess the ending of this week won't bring a lot of action.
  18. Rejected in UCSD. I now start worrying whether it is due to the fact that I am international student or my SOP wasn't good enough. It was the same SOP as for Stanford, that is why I am worried. Hope for NYU and Rochester decisions today.
  19. Congrats to all admitted. I really hope NYU, UCSD and Rochester will publish their results soon.
  20. No, I meant this paper: http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~gillum/rankings_paper.pdf
  21. Don't just look for the rankings. There are places which may not be ranked at the top, but they are at the top in what they are doing. For instance, if you are fond of game theory, you probably should go to Rochester, despite its being ranked outside of top 10 (in some rankings, it is in top 10, but you can see the point). Moreover, look for placement statistics. There is actually placement ranking of polisci PhD programs, though I don't remember the time span of the data they used in it. Professors can change work place, and it may affect faculty research potential significantly...
  22. Academic job market has been tough recently. However, there are different ways of achieving final goal, which is tenure in good university. Your placement after gradschool may be not so good, but if it is the place where you can teach 1-2 courses per semester and devote most of your time to research, then this is a decent start of career. You will have time to improve your publication profile in order to have chances for the job in better places. The most important thing is that the faculty can provide a good feedback and advices relevant to your ongoing research. Without this, work on papers is much tougher. P.S. It is worthwhile to keep in mind that University is not everything. If you graduated from University which is ranked lower but have 2 publication in, say, AJPS and JOP, you will be in much better position tha the person who graduated from better University without any papers published.
  23. Drop them a message. I had the same status, then wrote them e-mail and it turned out that they received my scores, so everything was ok. I think if your scores were missing they would send you a message earlier.
  24. Monday is unexpectedly quiet. No big action so far...
