  1. Hi everyone! I'm a soon-to-be PhD student in Mass Comm., I got accepted in Indiana Bloomington and will start a new life there in August. The forum was very fun and useful while the waiting was going on. I'm currently preparing my MA thesis and will be presenting the results of a small film experiment in the SCSMI (society for the cognitive studies of the moving image) in London, this week. So two things: 1. Any gradcafeeian going to the SCSMI this year? 2. Would you be up for taking the experiment? I need 100 participants and I'm on 60, so it would be really, really great if you took it, each of you counts. It's a 15 min. online questionnaire, all you have to do is to watch two videos and answer some questions. I'll be happy of telling you what it is about if you are interested (after completing it, so I don't bias your answers). This is the link to the questionnaire: - https://www.soscisurvey.de/filmexperiment/ Thank you a lot for your help, and hope to see some of you at the conference! Cheers, LucĂa
  2. Hey everyone! I accepted my offer to study a PhD in the Media School of Indiana Bloomington anyone else going there?
  3. what!? but you said that they would give the answers in a couple of weeks? I still have no news from them because my application is ran through the Fulbright program, so I might not know anything in several weeks, as it happened with my UCSD application... Ay, I'm really sorry about that. However, if you're applying to MA think that you can do a MA somewhere not that cool, and then prepare a nice PhD application and get it. Don't get too down about it, you never know where you're gonna end up. Maybe in some years you'll look back and see that you didn't have anything to worry about. Still, I'm sorry to hear it
  4. I just asked the director of the graduate program in UCSD about the numbers/chances for those in the waiting list. He said that there's 5 people in the waiting list, 14 people accepted (did you know that the program was that big?!) and that usually there's a 44% acceptance rate. So... guys, for those in the waiting list it sounds like we have good chances!
  5. Wuuutt the week after next? that's almost April! When I had the interview they said that they were meeting "beginning of March", I wonder what's 'beginning' for them ay, I so wanna know. Lemme know if you hear any from them please, I'll do the same. And good luck!
  6. I just received an email saying that I'm waitlisted for UC-San Diego, PhD in Communication. Anyone else applied there and got accepted or waitlisted? do you have any info about the chances of people in the waiting list being called?
  7. Yes! they told me they would be making decisions "early March", so it should be any time. All my hopes are on Bloomington, I really like the program there. Please let me know if you hear from them I'll do it too
  8. I'm one of WiscMad rejections; my PoI wrote to me personally to apologize about the generic rejection, he had interviewed me (he's a big name in the film studies field) and he told me that I was a strong applicant and that they really considered me, but at the end of the day they only had 4 positions open and there were way too many good applicants. I guess that's what happens when you apply to one of the best media schools in the world. At least it was very soothing receiving his email, I feel a bit more secure on my project knowing that he supported it. Thank you guys who've written kind words of moral support to those who applied to Wisconsin Madison I have three rejections and three more unis to go... my hopes are starting to plummet
  9. Hey, of those applying to Wisconsin Madison, in communication in general or in film in particular... anyone has got a rejection already? because for what I know, they took the admissions decisions weeks ago, but I haven't heard a word from them :/. I see there is only one accepted for WiscMad film, and no rejections...?
  10. Hey, there were some of you posting acceptances, rejections and waitslits from UCSD... Wondering if there is anyone left like me, who applied to UCSD communication but still has no news? My application went through a scholarship so I don't have direct access to it. So I don't know if I don't have news because of that, if anyone else has heard already or if there's still people in blissful ignorance like me?
  11. aaaghhh I'm all confused. 1. thanks -hermes- for the info on UPenn 2. UCSD and Wisconsin Madison are already informing people? but Wisconsin Madison unofficially? I see a rejection and a waitlisted in UCSD in results search, anyone claiming those? I have no news of any of those two universities and I'm going sort of crazy.
  12. Is the Upenn Annenberg website offline for everyone? it's been like that for days, right?
  13. Hey, I also got Bloomington asking me to send extra info a couple of weeks ago, a letter of recommendation in my case. I don't know if that's good news or not, but I guess that if they were going to reject us straight away they wouldn't bother asking for extra info?
  14. I know for sure that WM CommArts is sending letters this week. I think that if you had already been in contact with a professor, that sort of counts as an interview, so you shouldn't discard the possibility of you being accepted! In any case, the deafening silence will be broken any of these days, so just a little bit more or patience. I had an interview by a PoI, I believe I was one of the last ones, and he told me that this is the week. And what Autumn mentioned about 4-5 for 12 applicants... do we know if that's counting all tracks together? because there are 4 tracks in the communication department, if they only take 4 PhD students that means that there's only one per track :S. And that sounds like very, very few for such a big school!
