  1. It would be funny if they forgot to send them out before vacay
  2. Wow, like "you're not good enough for us to accept you, but we will accept that money" LOL
  3. Filling up calendar with busy work to distract me

  4. One of my letter writers was doing that to me, just smiling so cute at me and saying "don't worry, you'll get in," like I'm being soooo silly doubting it. Then my poor family... I've started yelling "NO!" when they ask me about it. "I DON'T KNOW! THERE'S LIKE MONTHS LEFT! THEY COULD TAKE TILL APRIL! STOP ASKING ME!"
  5. I wouldn't worry about it. Most of mine haven't got any posts here from ANY of their disciplines because they do things so late.
  6. ugh, I bet someone got fired or something. That's tough. I don't think I would curl up in a ball and die though. Drinking alone sounds about right.
  7. I know several people with more than one and they seem happy enough. I suggested in my statement that I would prefer it. But, while you have mentioned not having a lot of experience arguing with professors about things like that, I've gotten pretty comfortable with it so it would probably be easier for me to handle. I know grad students who still have difficulty with that. They can't stand up for their ideas very well or voice their thesis with confidence when it is questioned. I feel obligated to give them pep talks and encourage them to remember they are in charge of their idea and not let anything scare them into doing something else, be willing to say what you think, and try really hard to articulate it even if it's hard to find the words when the moment comes. Honestly, it's really hard for me to watch people freeze up and get intimidated like that. I feel so bad for them.
  8. I take offense to that. I am neither talented, nor competitive.
  9. The "Why should I choose you?" question is the one that scares me the most - I'm a sucky salesperson - total hell.
  10. I wish every school would hand out rejections as fast as some of these schools appear to be doing from the results page. That's the one thing I would prefer to have right now, so I can move on, for crying out loud. I mean, right now, if I knew I was rejected from all my schools, I wouldn't be thinking about it at all, it would be over. No more sword over head or whatever.
  11. The applications I saw that on wouldn't even accept it without the form completed, so I had to figure it out myself. There were a lot of "odd" types of GPA numbers I had to calculate in this manner, so I got used to it. (one school just wanted senior level, one wanted junior and senior level, one wanted major, etc. totally annoying)
  12. Just saw the first post from UC Davis, ugh, there's a lot of action up there today. ...WOOT!
  13. Hey tulips, this just happened to me too. When I took a shower. I knew those things were evil. I'm going to be patient and wait it out. Official emails always follow.
  14. Damned foresight. This just happened to me. I will never take a shower before midnight again. They didn't leave a message. Number traces to school of interest.
  15. Bummer, dude. I'm gonna assume that doesn't happen to me, while the suspense is allowing for this delusion.
  16. It's finals week. This week has been dead. There is no email from classmates, professors, etc. So there is no email to see and get excited about for a split second, that it might be an interview invite. I was just considering posting my email address so that people would send me random emails, probably filled with gibberish. Then I would be all excited for a second. In stead of sad. But then you people would have my email. This is bad. So you see the dilemma. In any case, it was a thought. #randompost
  17. I forgot about that issue - Personally, when I applied, several of my schools already had that information embedded into the application, so it was obvious who was and was not accepting. I guess that's just my lucky choice of schools. Something else that may have made my school choices easier, as opposed to some of the concerns mentioned by others here, is that I only applied to schools that had several POIs that suited my interests, so fit with one particular person wasn't really an issue.
  18. Wow, this got bumped from a few months back. What the hey- I saw notes in some apps/websites that said something like "DO NOT contact us (professors) we are busy and won't respond, it would be unprofessional to have contact with you prior to evaluation of applications" or something like that, which I thought was wierd but made it easier for me to make the decision not to bother people. The one professor I did contact, due to something I was confused about concerning their program, made no response whatsoever. And that was a legitimate issue about clarity on their website. I shoudn't have bothered I guess, but that lack of response made me remove them as a potential POI because I wasn't able to figure out the problem. However, after looking at how many people here admit to contacting POIs, I would probably have done so over the summer. Oh well. My apps are in. We'll see what happens.
  19. If finals weren't distracting me right now I'd probably have an ulcer

  20. I just noticed my profile on here said "Philosophy" and I was like "?" - thank goodness I fixed that, who knows what might have happened.
  21. My program said "Philosophy" I had no idea how that happened...

    1. Dedi

      Dedi

I was curious about that as well. "Physiology" is a common error too...

    2. Munashi

      Munashi

Dude, I've been wondering about you for weeks, but didn't want to seem rude by asking. LOL

    3. FinallyAccepted

      FinallyAccepted

Just some philosophy guy trolling the psychology forums... Philosophical mind games?

  22. I don't know if all schools are like this, but most of the grad students I know say that getting a B in anything in grad school is like getting a D/F in an undergrad course, and you should rethink what you're doing there. That's when in the program already, so I don't know about future prospects. I'm also interested about the weight given to it after the program, which I think is what you're asking about, so I hope other people will chime in.
  23. Actually, it's a funny question right? So, other people have been invited to school X, and you haven't heard anything. This means that a- you aren't even in the acceptable pile, b- you are a back up (waitlist), c- dude who was supposed to notify you hasn't gotten to it yet. This means that if you contact them, they will a- ignore you, b- tell you to chill, c- tell you about your invite. So, what is the worst that could happen? In the off chance that you are rejected - you are letting them know that you care, maybe this will remind them who you are. Future colleague is still someone you may work with in the field at some point. In the off chance you are waitlisted - you are letting them know that you care, maybe this will set you ahead of the other waitlisters. In the off chance you are already in but not notified yet - you are letting them know that you care, this will make them feel good about the choice they made about inviting you. Having just written this post and thought about it, I think I will go ahead and do this, once enough time has passed that I know I'm not invited. Of course, just a bunch of guessing.
