  1. I just got one today, but my application was missing a reference form, so I knew it was coming.
  2. That might be because there is already another thread for SDSU MSW on the "Applications" section of this forum.
  3. I got into Hunter....on May 5....such a slow turnaround time in my opinion..
  4. Just had a Skype interview, and they said we will hear back in a month.....that's tooo long its already mid-april....
  5. I just got an email regarding a Skype interview, which I scheduled for next Thursday...
  6. Has anyone been contacted regarding scheduling a skype interview? Although I received the invitation to interview, I had to reply requesting a skype interview, but I still haven't been notified of how to schedule that.
  7. Yeah, I don't even think my department (social welfare) had priority spots for housing to begin with.....good luck in your search! I'm hoping to find a studio for around 1000-1200/month....
  8. Well I applied for Weyburn terrace and HIlgard as my first choices which are both walking distance to campus (and rather expensive), but I'm also hoping to find some off campus (yet still walking distance) options...
  9. I will also be a Luskin student this fall in the social welfare program! I know for my program specifically, a car is almost a necessity in order to work at a field internship site. I am thinking about doing the micro track in my program
  10. I will be attending the UCLA MSW program this fall! I am also worried about housing because the campus seems to be in a very expensive location and I won't be able to do some on the ground searching for a place until August at least.
  11. For those who have been accepted into the MSW program: in your ePAL, were you awarded any work study or other types of aid besides loans? I was only awarded 1k perkins loan, 20,500 direct unsub loan, and the rest in gradPLUS loan...
  12. swgirl23, do you know of "College Confidential"? (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/) That site is not just a grad student forum, but for everything college, with heavy focus on undergrad, which is the type of major a BSW is. May I ask why you feel going for a BSW despite already having a bachelor's degree is a better option than going straight for an MSW? In my opinion, doing that will result in you taking many introductory courses in a broad range of disciplines all over again rather than simply focusing on the field you want to go into. It is not necessary to have a BSW in order to get into an MSW program (I got into a few MSW programs with only a BA in Psychology, and I am also 21 years old now), so I think it may be a more efficient option to simply go for an MSW program since you already have a bachelor's degree.
  13. I was awarded 11,500 in scholarship and $4,000 in work study for the first year. I will be declining Columbia though because I got into a cheaper, state school.
  14. I also want to chime in and say that I asked about the status of my application and WHEN I could expect to hear back about an interview or a decision via email, and all I got in reply was "keep checking your status" I'm starting to think I won't get accepted to this school lol
  15. Speaking of this March 30th date, can anyone confirm whether or not we will hear from financial aid regarding scholarships and other funding before this deadline?
  16. I wouldn't be so sure AstoriaGal! It doesn't seem like ANYONE has heard back from this school....I'm still wondering if I will even be invited to interview..
  17. Your issue might not be with the entire USC School of Social Work itself, but rather with the nature and structure of an advanced standing program. I was also accepted to both USC and UCLA; however, I did not apply for advanced standing but rather, the standard 2 year track for both. In my case, USC has not yet pressured me to pick a specialization or field placement (I won't be allowed to "pick" a field placement during my first year of the 2 year program I think); however, I know I will eventually have to for both USC and UCLA. To my understanding, advanced standing programs assume you have already covered the basics of social work and have enough experience to where you would only need to focus on what you wish to specialize in the field. This would explain the requirement of having a BSW in order to get into an advanced standing master's program I believe. Since you are in the standard 2 year track for UCLA, that program is probably assuming you still need to cover the basics before specializing. If you are not ready to pick a specialization, then I would suggest going into the standard 2 year program, since its curriculum will allow you to cover the basics and get some exposure before deciding where you want to specialize. Also, it may be worth noting that, even though UCLA does not offer an advanced standing program, you can have some of your previous courses taken during your BSW program approved by the department, thus allowing you to substitute those intro courses with other courses within or outside the department, according to pages 8-9 of the 2014-2015 UCLA MSW student manual. 18. No, I got into other schools so it's no big deal.
  19. congrats Sh!zaam !! I was officially rejected yesterday since I didn't get 3 letters into that school. Closure
  20. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1553938244856923/ Nothing on scholarships, but the letter I got in the mail gave no mention of any fellowship so I'm assuming I didn't get it.
  21. I don't think your undergraduate major will keep you from being accepted, unless you have not taken certain courses that some social work programs have deemed as prerequisites, such as statistics, human biology, or something else. In fact, I think talking about how your studies and piano skills were used to improve the quality of life of the people you were working with in your personal statement can strengthen your application.
  22. Nowadays, it seems college applications are almost entirely online, so the days of mailing out physical letters are in the past (except for CSU schools for some reason). I think for this reason and the reason that there isn't one centralized application like there are for medical or public policy schools is what makes it difficult to use such a method to mail out recommendation letters. I suggest getting in touch with your letter writers directly and kindly asking them to re-upload their letter to each specific application source.
  23. I also support the idea of a Facebook group ^.^ However, how were you all able to accept UCLA's offer so fast? Although I got an email from Lance Fooks saying I have been recommended for admission, there is still no update on the grad admission status check website I was linked to in that email from Lance Fooks.
  24. My email to check came at 2/27/2015 7:20AM, KST, so maybe 5:20PM (Thursday, February 26) in New York time?
  25. I got in as well! My last name starts with C if that means anything?
