Still waiting on Emerson decision?
dc2bslp replied to cupofcoffee's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Same for Emerson and Northeastern for me. I did interview over Skype for Emerson, though. Definitely not banking on getting in, but I'm okay with that because while Boston has great programs (especially for out of fielders), I was hoping not to have to move up there. I think they're deciding about the waitlist now. Good luck! -
Love it!!

Vanderbilt SLP Applicants
dc2bslp replied to kellyfussman's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I just got in, too! Stats below. I'm out of field, so no SLP extracurriculars but I do have research experience (including a neuro thesis) and internships working with children with developmental disabilities. Be sure to personalize your SOP for each school according to their unique programs and resources, and to be clear about your future goals and a clinician, researcher, etc. Good luck and let me know if you hve any questions! -
2015 SLP Admissions Thread

Just got an email from Vanderbilt to check my portal and there was an acceptance! The letter says funding offers will be sent on 3/13. I'm amazed I got in, and it's such a great program, but unless I get a great funding offer I'll be going to UMD (I'm in-state). Keep an eye out everyone and good luck! -

Thank you!! I was kind of shocked haha. I think going to the open house and emailing the professors afterward expressing my interest in UMD as my top choice, research interests, etc. really helped. Good luck and keep us updated! -

I'm interested too! I was going to apply there until I got into UMD... I know they just finished a strategic planning process and revamped some things. My impression from getting application materials together was not the best (no one ever answered the phone or emails for weeks, and their online system is ancient). I ended up just tossing the application. It is very affordable for DMV area residents, though! Especially compared to GWU (rich kid school haha) -
I'm happy to talk to you about my impressions - I'm heading there in the Fall and went to their open house in January.

Hey Emerson acceptances, just curious - did anyone do a Skype interview instead of in person?

Hey! I'm almost definitely going to UMD for an M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology. Really excited to stay in the DC area (and at such an awesome school), I love it here! -

Hi all, I got into UMD so far (my top choice!!) and I'm waiting to hear from others. Although, unless I get a crazy good funding offer elsewhere, I'll be going to UMD! I really loved the open house, and did not want to uproot my life here at all (plus in state tuition is hard to pass up!) I skype interviewed for Emerson and haven't head back from northeastern, so not feeling optimistic about those. Good luck everyone! -
Competitiveness for Extended Master's Programs
dc2bslp replied to HogHug's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I'm in the same boat! I applied to programs with no prereqs complete (currently taking audiology and phonetics through USU online). I feel much better about taking prereqs now that I know I'm accepted to a program, plus since most programs require different courses, I'm trying to minimize extra courses taken. I applied to one 3 year program, a couple of "one extra semester" programs, and a couple of "5 classes before matriculating" programs. I'll probably take 2-3 more courses this summer, and I'm even debating taking all 6 I need for the 3 year program (so it would cut the program down to 2). I'm waiting to hear about assistanships to decide, if I don't get one I might defer and so some traveling while finishing prereqs for cheap. I was a neuroscience major, and had been working in government science for the past 3 years. So excited to start this journey -
I just did my interview over Skype - it was only 12 minutes long! You are asked 3 questions up front, then you have a chance to ask a couple questions. It went by so fast! Good luck everyone!

I just spoke with admissions - there is no disadvantage to Skype, unless you feel you will interview differently than in person. The only other disadvantage is that you don't get to tour the campus, speak with current students, etc. Hope this helps! I'm still deciding myself.

Post-bacc or no post-bacc....so many questions!!
dc2bslp replied to Kate22192's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I'm out of field as well and I'm taking the specific courses I need online through Utah State. Courses are affordable at ~$870 per 3 credit class. I already applied and gained admission for Fall! I applied only to programs that are either 3 years (with an extra prereq year) or require 5 or less prereqs before matriculation (so you can apply without having them done). I'm taking 2 courses now while working full time (not difficult) and will take the rest during the summer or just go to a 3 year program. Hope this helps, and good luck! -
Hi all, I checked my portal late last night and found an interview time under "Credential Status" - I submitted on the day before the due date, out of field applicant (neuro major) with no prereqs, GPA 3.61 and GRE 164 V 159 Q 5.0 AW. Hope this helps and good luck to all!

Thanks! Good luck to everyone, fingers crossed we all get to interview!

Hi all, Has anyone been invited to interview at Emerson for Fall 2015 yet? It's getting pretty close to the stated interview weekend, so I'm getting worried... Thanks!
