  1. To the person who got accepted by UIUC. Congrats, would you mind sharing which program you got accepted into?
  2. Just to those who just cannot stop checking the TGC results page and want to be freak out constantly, there's an app named Tapatalk you can install in your phone to track forum updates. It seems that you can set up TGC results page there and it will just send you notification instantly when some posts something on the results page. Consider this tip to be my Christmas gift to ya'll, ENJOY
  3. I did not get it. I am not sure if they are still sending invitations... oh well. Who are you applying to for ASU/UCLA? (PM me perhaps? if you don't feel comfortable posting it publicly)
  4. I totally feel you. I've had a couple of sleepless nights now and my finals are next week (which exacerbates things). It seems quant programs notify their applicants relatively early. So I am quite nervous/excited to find out the results! What is ETSU?
  5. @BritAlysseCongrats on the interview invite! To my understanding, for every spot open, professors would invite 3 to 5 people (though this varies across programs). I am also curious as in what would be most appropriate for an interview. I did some googling, but I still feel unsure about this.
  6. I should probably add that this is just an informal invite from my POI. Official invite may not be sent out till January since the interview is held at early February.
  7. Thanks! I definitely feel you... the waiting seems even more "excruciating" than the applications. Thanks. That's what I thought. But I am pretty happy about early notifications.
  8. Guess I will be the first. Interview invitation from Virginia Tech, Clinical program, personalized email. Interview will be held around Friday, February 5th, 2016
  9. I have not yet gotten into grad school, so by no means would what I am going to say be accurate. However, it is of my impression that Phd programs seem to expect their students to have come up with some project ideas, with certain level of specificity, even before the admission. What did you put in your statement of purposes? How did you communicate with your POI to reach the agreement that you two fit well? I understand that the course load of graduate studies, along with the workload, can be daunting. It seems to me that what you've described is perfectly reasonable of your advisor and it should be what you agreed when you signed up for this. Whereas I do think you may be being a bit too sensitive about your workload, I agree with you that comparing you and former students is not exactly appropriate of your advisor. It seems rather impolite of your advisor, even though your advisor may be right. However, as other posts suggest, TGC cannot help you much with this: TGC cannot really go up and yell at your advisor, nor can TGC suddenly make you feel okay about this and become motivated by this. As an international student myself, I do feel you on the cultural adjustment part. Transitioning is hard. I did not perform well academically in my first two year, and I was just doing my undergraduate. I cannot imagine how hard this would be for you as a PhD student. However, there exists resources on campus to help you "fit in." Try to be positive and don't get beat up about this. Instead of thinking how you are being asked to do something out of your power, just try to do it. As I have gradually come to realize, academia is cut-throat and is not for the weak. Work hard, perform better, or quit.
  10. If it is before the submission deadline, it would be most likely that they would upload this material for you. Don't stress over this. But do follow-up via phone and other means if you do not hear back from them.
  11. My cumulative GPA is 3.5. I am not sure how to assess my letters, one is from the lecturer I TA-ed for, two are from research mentors, and another from the director of clinical training in my school who happens to be my honors advisor. My letter writers said that my letters were substantial. As my substantiative interest lies with evidence-based measurements and measurement-based care, I am definitely interested in measurement issues, psychometrics, and IRT. In utilizing such measurements, I am interested in longitudinal data analysis, clustered data analysis, and growth curve modeling. I did mention but not much about my philosophy background. But I would agree that philosophy helps with my studies in psychology/mathematics. This waiting is nerve wrecking, especially as I am having my finals next week. I am glad that we can commiserate! Are you interested in exchanging other forms of communication methods through PM?
  12. For UNC, I am applying for joint admission. For Quant, I named Curran and Bauer; Youngstrom for clinical. For Notre Dame, Wang and Cheng. I have a sense that you are interested in longitudinal analysis? Yes. From results search, apparently someone got invitation from UNC around Dec. 9 last year. And that is just "horrifying". Thanks for the "compliment." I do not have a high GPA, which got me worried. I did have some email exchanges with Dr. Curran. He's very nice. However, I did not contact Notre Dame folks. How about you?
  13. Hey! Who in UNC/Notre Dame are you applying to? Are you familiar with UNC? ... Is my impression correct that UNC sends out interview invitation letters insanely early (before Dec. 15)?
  14. Second you guys. I, in addition, am obsessed with emailing/calling programs as if I am chasing them romantically. (I sort of am...)
  15. As the title suggests, I would like to start a thread where folks can post interview-related issues, some sample "direction" for posts can be 1. which program is your post concerned with? (e.g., quant/social/developmental/clinical/neuro/cognitive) 2. which school did you receive the interview/interview invitation from?
  16. Vanderbilt is free to apply as well! I think it is super cool! And yes, I think a lot of schools are not taking calls at all now... they just have recorded messages directing you to emails... :/
  17. Hey Woodsygal85, I am curious about what program in Cornell/Princeton are you applying to. It was to my impression that these schools do not have clinical psychology programs.
  18. How would you know that your application is disqualified for incompletion?
  19. Thanksgiving was productive! I finished 7 apps so far, 3 more to go today, and 3 more to go before December 15, and then master programs and Phil programs later. I did not expect the application to be this amount of work though. Since I am customizing my statement of purpose for each school, I have been writing SoP for forever.
  20. Me! Me! Me! If by credentials you are referring to qualifications, past experiences of some sorts, or "prepared-ness," then yes, I am very concerned. Not that I feel unprepared at all, but I feel more or less clueless as in what the programs value specifically. They say they value this and that, but the requirements do not appear operational. GOOD LUCK! where are you applying?
  21. Hi, I am a fellow applicant, so I am not exactly an expert on this matter. But it seems to me that GRE scores mostly serve as the filter in application. It varies across schools, but from a few admission office I telephoned in, quantitative score seems to be mostly used or emphasized in the "filtering" process. In this case, I would send the score with the highest Q. But to make up for the less than ideal V/AW, I would perhaps submit a writing sample.
  22. I am not certain about my chances since accordingly applicants who are still a college senior are at disadvantage. And my GPA is bad. But it does not hurt (much) to try. Still trying to figure out transcript stuff.... it seems like most of school only requires official transcript to be mailed upon admission? So I am a bit freaked out by your ordering 17 transcripts.... by the way we have some schools in common My research interest centers in (clinical) psychological assessments.
